No easy way around it I suppose, just gotta practice and get the basic nature of it down.

the hardest part for me is the head and legs, but im practicing. Most of the sprites for the game are side views which seem to be the easiest for me, so thats good i guess.

I think you're actually fine! There's only two things I would work on:
1. The snout usually doesn't go upward quite so much, I've found, and
2. Make the eyes bigger on the sideview.

I'm still trying to figure them out for myself.

I always feel like I'm making the eyes too big, only to end up not making them big enough. XP They also dip below the muzzle line, which is strange for me, but I'm getting more used to it.

All of these pics look great, though I do have some minor critique of the third Fluttershy pic, her front legs are bent the wrong way, they're supposed to be going opposite of her rear legs, aside from that, the you did quite nicely.

The bend in the front leg is at the "elbow" joint (the joint up close to a horse's body), thought I probably should have bent the "wrist" joint (the one in the middle of a horse's front leg) a little bit too, just to make it look more relaxed.

That looks like the thing that lives in my closet and whispers insanities to me at night all to the gentle sound of bones being ground in a massive set of jaws.

Sweet jumpin' Jesus. D= That reminds me way too much of a nightmare I had the other night. (I guess it really is the stuff of nightmares, then)

Had you really never seen that before? That shit indeed is the stuff nightmares are made of.

I think the secret is that FiM/G4 heads don't make sense in three dimensions.  Dead-on views work somehow but seem totally stupid.  I'd love to see the original model sheets for the show to see how they explain the weird rotations.  There has to be a how-to page showing all the angles.  It still has to be the biggest pain in the butt for the animators.  That's why the eyes look derped sometimes in the show, not to mention ponyclops.

Yes, it's one of those things where they take quite a few stylistic liberties. Once you figure out what they are, though, I'm sure it must come together. <=P
