It is 4017AD.
Approximately 2000 years ago, a group of heroes called the Crossers of Gaia, sealed a cursed demon, Courge, by dismembering it into seven parts.
The Crossers of Gaia has three main entities, the Dawn Bringer, Twilight Walker and the Dusk Messenger. - Dusk Messenger: An entity that observes the planet, Gaia, by living among its people as a sentient being that never ages. They usually disguise themselves as animals, living amongst you.
- Twilight Walker: An entity that judges whether or not ‘Judgement’ needs to be passed on Gaia. A ‘Judgement’ being passed is equivalent to a wipe-out of the existing living beings - a doomsday. Twilight Walkers are born into the community, their celestial memories sealed so they can live regular lives. When it is time to pass Judgement, their memory is returned to them and they can reflect on their time living with the people to decide on their verdict.
- Dawn Bringer: Entities that roam Gaia, doing whatever they please until Judgement is passed. When this occurs, all Dawn Bringers unite and do the extermination of all lives on Gaia.
In the most recent Judgement, the then-Twilight Walker sentenced the world to its doom in 2012AD. As the Dawn Bringers were about to unite and wipe out Gaia, disturbances occurred in the celestial realm. A celestial rebel known as Courge was a Dawn Bringer that decided not to carry out the purge.
Courge had unknown and erratic beliefs that was never truly understood. It rebelled by possessing the Twilight Walker and Dusk Messenger using forbidden celestial magic, using their powers against each other and began spreading misinformation on the Twilight Walker’s Judgement. Courge later created his own army to hound Gaia, hoping to be rid of the Crossers and claim Gaia for itself.
The Crossers eventually found out about Courge’s plot and fought back. When the Crossers finally defeated Courge, they realised that they lacked the power and will to fully destroy it. In exchange for their lives, the Crossers split Courge’s body into seven parts and sealed it. The followers of the Crossers who lived the catalytic battle, stashed the bits and pieces of Courge all around their planet, in hopes that the demon never rises again and to honor the Crossers. Judgement was never carried out, and Gaia was never reset.
As time passed, Courge’s sentient dismembered body parts began recovering by absorbing the life energy of living beings that wander near its burial site, latching on directly to an organism. Now, siphoning their life energy directly and using their bodies as fodder for its rebirth. The dismembered parts seek to garner back enough strength to reform into Courge once more.
Courge’s dismembered body parts have already located 7 hosts, to which he grants them part of its power, as it slowly kills them from inside. These hosts are known as Latched Beings. These Latched Beings only know of their strange abilities, but not the unfortunate fate that awaits them.
