The Face in the Frost by Bellairs, is worth a read, as it is funny at times & creepy at others. Two wizards, Prospero & Roger, deal with the villainy of a third,Meliadus, who has the Book of Voynich (not named, but fits the description). Since Prospero can look into the future ...all sorts of anachronisms result.

I'd have to re-read it tbh, as an artist. Since i remember reading it when i was way younger and i don't really remember most of the details, aside for the twist near the end and the whole relations between the main character and the other main girl.
