Because even the most flawed of cubs/pups still want to have some fun in their lives. Rekal as created rather then born wolf was made wrong and flawed, needing to carry and use a external life support machine to live. But like most young ones, he didn't let it slow him down or stop him from at least trying to have fun in his life.
