I've heard the same, at least of the pairing being a good one of tubes and the HD 650's... I have a pair of HD 600's that I love, but I prefer my AKG K712's (quite possibly due to them having somewhat more bass). Either way, comfy headphones and whatever amp one likes (and hopefully the two play well together) works well in my eyes ^_^
