Byron and Clyde are not related. And I haven't found a way to make that not weird. What I've got so far is that this Byron (and there are several of them spread across multiple continuities) has a neglectful mother who regularly dumps him on Clyde, giving me an excuse to pair them together. Think of their relationship as the grouchy old man from Up and that chubby boy scout who always hangs out with him, even though he could probably find a better use of his time. It's a good dynamic.
Every Byron is an orphan, although in this case, it's more figurative than literal. In some cases, he has no mother at all... he's a genetic construct. In other cases, he's left on the doorstep of another family and he gets an adoptive mother. In this case, he's got a mother, but she just doesn't give a shit.
