Run Chucky run! Nothing wrong with a little foot race, but Chucky is taking this a bit too personal. Kev has pulled him down immaturity road a little bit farther than he realizes.
Chucky and I have something in common. I'm not a fast runner, but once, being late for a ferry, I ran the last mile and lept from the dock to the already departing ferry, and made it. (OK. It was only 2 feet from shore.)

Oh those lights are quite a few feet higher than them. And if there was an aircraft low enough to hit them, it would already be plowing through the approach lights.

That's not what I meant. Having been one who worked on ILS transmitters years ago, I had more than a few times where pilots in anything with afterburners would, on seeing us working off the end of the runway while they were taking off, stand the aircraft nose-up and burners on right overtop of us, just to mess with us.

I can't say he's got much stamina. His young horny body would blow that load pretty quick. Merry got him to last a little bit longer than usual, but that because she knows what she's doing. In the right situation he'd have a quick recharge time.

Muscle's heavier than fat, plus it requires more oxygen. I'd imagine that while Kev's been working on his muscles, he hasn't been doing much cardio, whereas Chucky's constant hiking, especially in the mountains, has given him good lungs.
Chucky could also teach Kev a bit about not putting all your energy out at the start.

Sadly the only time I get any speed is going downhill. I remember years ago working on a forestry project on Flagstaff Mountain my team had to head down a little early because there were thunderheads just coming over the peaks from where we were. There was a bright flash when we were half way down the trail and know how to use my weight for forward momentum. Everyone laughed because it was the fastest they had ever seen me move.

Chucky's not been pulled that far down the immaturity hill, I'd think. Real immaturity would be if he'd said what he was thinking.
Chucky's hiking probably has done more for him than longer legs. I was taller and scrawnier than my classmates when I grew up, but I was virtually the slowest runner among the boys. Just another reason I didn't like P.E.

Kev needs to hit the cardio a bit harder! :D WAY to go CHUCKY! :D Also..is there a possibility they're going to get in trouble for being out there? I mean isn't it against the rules for students to be out at the markers while students are taking their flights? Otherwise awesome story as always. You are still one of the highlights here on IB for sure! :D

They're okay as long as they stay on the access road. If they started wandering around the approach light structures, they might find themselves in a rendezvous with airport security. One thing to note, they are not living in any sort of Post-911 society where terrorism as a big threat. Even in Pre-911 US, general aviation airports were pretty relaxed toward people wandering around as long as you weren't on an active part of the airport.
