Well, if you're going to face a fear it needs to be done in gradual steps. That was probably the worst way to try and force yourself to learn. Going into deep water off a slide leaves you no room for control since gravity is going to force you under from the impact.
It would have been a much smarter decision to stay near an edge or preferably the ladder of the pool so you could practice while also having a safety net to grab onto if you get anxious. And it would be best if it's in a pool that's barely bigger than your height so at the least you can kick off from the bottom if you go under.
