An ancient French tale of Orson & Valentino, comes to mind.
Back in the 8th century, two twin babies were abandoned in the woods. Each had a very different fate. Baby 1 was adopted by a she-bear and became a Tarzan of the woods. Baby 2 was found by a knight and brought up in klng Pepin III's court. He became a valiant knight, yclept Valentino. The two met and fought, and Valentino bested him. He made him his squire and named him Orson (bear). Together they rescued their mother (just how did they recognize each other ?).
The pantomine seems to have been performed at Lent. Unless I find a definitive text, that's all I can relate. Pepin III was the father of Charlemagne,first emperor of the West. (Zoe,empress of the East, wanted to marry him so as to resurrect the Roman Empire, but plans did not come to fruit.)
