Also reminds me of the Crystalline Entity from some early Star Trek episodes. This cosmic monster exterminated an entire colony -with the exception of the then-dormant robot Data. It was later determined that his "brother" Lore had befriended the cosmic monster. The Crystalline Entity was eventually destroyed by a vengeful woman whose family & friends had been killed by this -being.
