Taken and raised in Johto Bruce left for the shores of his homeland, it took him a while as he ended up making several stops along the way, each time he sat upon the rock wishing to sing, not knowing what tune lead his heart but he still tried as he swam. He eventually reached Alola finding a decent cave among the islands.
Due to his frequent rests he was in much better shape upon arriving than a Primarina he found collapsed on the beach.
Taking her back to his cave he gave her some care and attention despite her confusion upon waking.
The Primarina introduced herself as Alalina in the language of the humans which she soon taught to Butch, allowing him to return the favor and tell his name.
They both had a similar urge to compose a song and did so quickly, falling in love in the process. They quickly found that their song had a special effect; It caused everyone within a certain range to become pregnant quickly, and only got larger depending on how much effort was put into the song. They decided amongst themselves to keep this song to themselves and those close to them.
