Well, with all the crap that's happened lately, time for a new Apprentice Profile. And in honor of the new President-Elect and his VP, we're going to introduce a character who's a Gay Muslim who knows Science. And that's as political I'm going to get today.

Ziyad grew up in Egypt, studying science and engineering at the University of Cairo, where he also discovered his orientation and found a lover, who was studying archeology and history. Unfortunately, their relationship ended tragically when the club they both attended was attacked by terrorists and bombed. Ziyad was left crippled, and his lover died.

After recovering, he was recovered his late lover's items, including an intriguing book with translation notes, that claimed the book was written by Alexandrian artificers, depicting strange designs for mechanical devices and clockwork constructs. Including designs for oddly-decorated prosthetic limbs. As he was designing a prosthetic arm for himself anyway, he decided to honor his lost love by using those notes to help him use the design to construct the limb.

When he put it on, he was shocked to realize the artificial limb was not only reacting to his thoughts as if it was a real limb, but he actually felt things with it. After a few experiments, he realized the limb alone wasn't doing this, nor was he getting that sensation from any other prosthetic. Curious, he decided to try some of the other blueprints inside the book, and discovered he could craft the various clockwork automatons and bring them to life.

Unfortunately, further experiments into this started to bring attention from University administrators, one of them being a religious fundamentalist who objected to Ziyad's "ungodly" trafficking. Not wanting to tempt faith any more then he had to, he decided to migrate to Canada, where he eventually ended up knocking at my door after finding my Want Ad enchanted to be noticed by magically gifted talent. After a brief interview, I determined Ziyad had little aptitude for spellcasting, but great potential as a magical craftsman. He's taken to his new studies well, and has greatly innovated in the art of blending magic and technology, combining both in uncanny new ways.

Also, it's nice to have an IT guy in-house.
