It was a typical fall day in Etruchian high, a young jackal was sitting in the lunch room. Hundreds of kids were in there conversing, eating their meals, relaxing from their learning. His hair was long, and it certainly looked like a lot of care was put into it. Bright sickly green streaks through his hair, tied up in a fairly bizarre way. Over his ears were a set of headphones, muffled blasted music could be barely understood. “Kagami ni utsushita shibito no namida wa samayƍ hanabira.” Just as sudden with his bobbing of his head happened, his headphones were pulled off his ears.

“Ah, hey!” The male spoke up with displeasure. Behind him was a lemur with gingery red hair and green eyes one could get lost in quite easily.

“Ahem!” He cleared his throat. “And what may I do for you Raven?” He asked with a goofy smile on his face.

“First of all, you can stop talking to me like we’re friends. Second of all, you’re in my seat. I need you to move.” The girl looked at him folding her arms.

He turned around to look at her correctly, his eyes were pure white. His sclera was a blood red color. “Ew! What’s wrong with your eyes kid!?” She protested.

The jackal laughed heartily. “Well I got curious online and I was looking up some ridiculous cat videos. And then someone trolled me and they sent me to this site that had some really gnarly looking gory pictures! It grossed me out so badly I had to rush to get some bleach!”

Raven looked absolutely horrified. “That’s disgusting! Why the hell would you pour bleach into your eyes!” She shuddered.

The male laughed hysterically. “You really think I’d be stupid enough to look up cat videos on the internet? Come on. The only thing I’m looking up on the internet is stuff that would make your mother question her sanity.”

“What ever Eb. Just, get up so I don’t have to kick you out of it.” The girl gave him a triumphant smirk. Ebenezer stood up from the seat, he was roughly almost two feet taller than the girl. His outfit was most outlandish, black pants, a red trimmed skirt. Wearing a black button up short sleeve. He was absurdly outlandish.

“Alright, no need to act tough Napoleon.” He laughed and ruffled her hair. Before he could even get his backpack the short stature girl punched him in the gut. “THAT! Is for calling me Napoleon, you’re lucky I don’t feel like fucking you up for touching my hair.”

Eb crumpled over onto the ground with a wheeze, trying to catch his breath. The boy finally got back up, it ached to move, to breathe, let alone actually talk. He grabbed his backpack and walked out the cafeteria doors out into the main atrium, making his way to the left wing up to two wooden doors. Taking the metal door handle opening the door into what looked like a music room. There was a grand piano in the back of the room, two doors to his left and a whiteboard behind the piano.

He made his way into the closest room and shut the door behind him. Inside the small room was a guitar seven strings, black in color resting on a stand along with an amp beside the chair. Eb sat himself down in the chair, slipping the clothe sling over his shoulder. Plugging in the amp, he plucked at the strings tuning. Soon getting himself into a rhythmic motion with his fingers, A strong harmony of chords eventually coming from the amplifier. The music purveyed the area, a very quick pace with his playing certainly made for an energetic song.

Ebenezer spent his lunch locked away in this small confined area, mute from the world around him, waiting to finally go home. The buzzer finally went off but the jackal didn’t seem to hear, caught up in his music. A rap tap tapping came to the door. The jackal looked up to see there was a skunk standing there in front of the door, he opened it up peeking his head in. “Hey dumbass. If you don’t stop your prissy guitar playing you’re gonna miss the bus.” His voice was brusque but it showed a hint of caring in it.

“Heh, alright Leon. I guess I finally lost myself in my song. Besides who’re you calling a dumbass? If I’m not mistaken you got a lower score on midterms than I did.” He laughed putting the guitar in a hard case. The red haired skunk’s face flushed red.

“You moron! It’s because I didn’t even try!” He rubbed the back of his head. “Come on jackass.” The skunk replied opening the door further. Ebenezer stood up from his chair taking the hard case and walked out the door side by side by with the skunk. “You’ve been practicing that song from Cacophony haven’t you?” The skunk mentioned.

Eb gave him a big smirk. “I got it down. I got the entire song finally! It only took me three weeks, the chorus is what always tripped me up, because it would alternate so quickly. I guess it was only a matter of strengthening my fingers!” He smiled proudly, the two stepping on the bus together. “So the next song I want to learn is gonna be…Well I was honestly thinking about taking music theory. I wanna learn what it takes to actually make my own music.”

“You really are obsessed Eb.” He said exasperated. The two sat across from one another, Eb having to take up the rest of his seat with his guitar.

“Yeah when I’m determined about something my father says I’m like a pit bull with lockjaw.” He laughed.

Leon shook his head in aggravation. “Well at least you’re honest. Just don’t overdo it dude, I know you wanna make it as a musician but it isn’t that easy when all you’ve got is a drummer and a guitarist and or vocalist. You need some flare to it. I don’t know maybe a...I keyboardist or someone to play bass. I don’t care. Just you and I we suck. Like we suck hard.”

Eb shook his head. “We don’t suck! We just haven’t found the right people to add!” He smiled proudly. The bus coming to a stop in front of a little blue house down on a rural street. The jackal got up from the seat. “Later Leon. See you tomorrow right?”

“You know I am gonna see you tomorrow dumb ass. We go to the same school!” Leon said clearly sounding agitated. Ebenezer laughed and waved his hand getting off the bus. Walking his way up the small staircase of paved stairs to the door. Opening the glass door and into the house he went.

“Mom, dad I’m home!” Eb stepped through the door. To be met with his father’s disapproving stare.

“Your mother let you out of the house like that?” The older jackal asked him. His own outfit certainly like a night and day transformation.”

Out from the corner of the house his younger brother was watching as his father scolded his older brother. His hair was a short dark brown color, slicked back, an outfit was more tame compared o his brothers. A jean jacket and torn up jeans. “oooooh….” He uttered.

“Yeah dad, she thinks that my ‘self expression’ as she put it. Is very important and it should not be stifled.” He simply stated with an annoyed tinge.

“I just think you’re old enough to start thinking about dressing like an adult now. I mean, you’re nineteen now. You should be out of high school and getting a job, an apartment, and even a girlfriend. I mean girls like a guy that has his life together Ebenezer.” His father scolded him.

“Yeah, I get it dad. I’m not some pencil pusher.” He looked down.

“What on earth did you do to your eyes??” He said angrily.

“Dude relax their just contact lenses.” He shut his eyes tight. “Look is mom home? I got no homework tonight, and am hoping to get to the garage.” He started making his way into the kitchen, his guitar strapped to his back.

“Don’t you dude me. And I really don’t like you practicing in the garage Eb. Why not start looking for real work? I mean you’re old enough.” He followed him into the dining room.

“I get it! Just...Get off my back! Alright?? I’ll go somewhere else and I’ll find a damn job!” He rustled his black and green hair and stormed himself out of the house.

The older figure sighed exasperated and scratched the back of his head watching his son walk out the door.

The jackal made his way down the street finding himself at the corner where his favorite food joint was. He reached deep into his pockets pulling out a few dollars and a handful of change. “Well at least there’s enough for a burger here.” He said sheepishly. “Maybe I’ll find a dead end job here and I’ll just live with dear old dad until the day he croaks.” He rolled his eyes, but when his gaze came back to the streets he noticed something that held his attention like nothing ever did.

He noticed a girl with dark brown fur, out of the corner of his eye, he could see those bright blue eyes of hers. She wore a petticoat with a long green scarf. Her hair was wine red, the boy couldn’t help but stare!

He rubbed his eyes taking a second glance, but when he looked back there was no one there. The jackal’s eyes darted around hoping he would see her again. “I think I just needed a vacation from life and I guess I just got that.” He chuckled and crossed the street, entering the establishment.

He glanced up at the board waiting in line, though he already knew what he was going to get. Since they already knew him by name with how often he came in. When he finally made his way to the counter the teller looked at him with a smile. “What can I get for you today Eb? The usual burger with onion rings on it, with a slice of tomato?” He nodded his head quietly.

“Yeah I’ll get just that today.” He pulled the change out of his pocket counting it all out. “Sorry some of it is in change.” He looked at the girl behind the counter with a sheepish smile.

“It’s no big deal, it’s my job.” She bore a smile trying to be understanding. He dropped down the money into her hand and pulled up a cup for him.

“O-oh, no I didn’t ask for that.” He spoke up. The girl smiled shaking her head.

“It’s okay, I got it. You’re in here all the time, so a little something extra isn’t gonna kill anyone. Besides I still owe you for helping me out the other day.” She smiled sweetly.

Eb couldn’t help but blush taking the cup from her with a cheeky smile. “Thanks.” He chuckled and walked over to the dispenser and got himself a cup of what looked like a luminescent green soft drink.

He went back up and grabbed his burger and sat down at a side table, staring out at the chilly streets. Golden yellow and red leaves descended upon the area like the snow soon would in the coming months. When the male finished his food he stood from his seat and tossed the wrapper from his meal in the trash, giving the girl a wave. “Till we next meet!” He shouted back with a laugh.

Eb headed home with a full stomach and a renewed sense of self worth. He crossed the street, but as he did he couldn’t help but think about the mysterious girl he saw from across the way.

He got himself back onto his street and made his way back to his house. Opening the door and; stepped into his home. His mother was sitting in the living room watching the television quietly. When she heard the door open the woman rushed over to her only begotten son and hugged him tightly. “Ebenezer where the heck have you been!”

The boy eeped being hugged by his mother. “Ma relax, I was just over at the Rocket Burger down the way. Dad and me just had a little disagreement and I had to take a rage dump.” He blushed embarrassed.

“Your father told me the whole thing. And I must say I am not happy with him or you for that matter.”  The woman pulled back from him giving him a concerned look. “Just please be careful okay? I know you’re a grown man and all. But you’re still my little boy.” She coddled.

“Mum enough please. I just wanna go to my room and chill out. It’s been one heck of a day.” He plopped
his guitar case down by the door and headed down the hall. Turning the knob on his door and shut the door behind him. Inside this little room adorned with a pale shade of green the room was plastered with different posters. “The Candy Spooky Theater” Followed by a skull decorated by pale colored floweres.a poster of a giant chapel basking in blue moonlight blood red letters the words “Malice Mizer Bara no Seidou”  On his ceiling was a white poster of a porcelain looking woman, half coated in in blood, her eyes black and devoid of life.

In an off white color it said “Dir En Grey Bloody Baby and Sacrifice. Obscure”.  The jackal reached over to his desk picking up his laptop before plopping into his bed and opening the screen opening a video file “Bridal of Rose” watching the video he began to doze off.

Finding himself in a carriage being drawn off to a scenic view of a bright orange moon in the light. He looked down and saw he was in this intricate and regal outfit. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, seeing himself now inside of a large chapel basking in the moonlight. In front of him was the girl he saw earlier! She was in a beautiful lacy gown looking up at him. Her beautiful blue eyes shone in the pale light. Her body embraced to his, the jackal’s heart nearly pounding out of his chest. He tried to speak up but no words would escape his lips.

“Kiss me..” The girl’s lips motioned.

Eb leaned closer, his lips in front of hers when a loud knocking sound awoke him from his deep sleep. “Guh!” The male woke up, his computer completely blacked out. “Aw dammit...” He groaned in annoyance.

“Eb get up it’s time for school.” His father’s voice called out. The young man slipped out of his bed noticing he was still in the clothes from yesterday. He stretched popping several places in his back before taking out a white shirt and a pair of simple black jeans. On his door was a light tan ripped up sleeveless vest with the letters “US” on it. On the corner of his bed was a thick black belt with metallic holes in the belt. He grabbed the belt and slipped it through the loops on his pants and grabbed his vest. Shuffling into the hallway and into the bathroom. Staring at himself for a moment in the bathroom mirror he opened the mirror and pulled out six different lens cases. Opening one empty one and placed the contacts into the solution.

“REALLY gotta stop doing that...Lest they fuse to my eyes haha.” He laughed and pulled out another one. When he opened it up there were two lenses with a faint whiteness to them and black almost frost like attributes coming from the center.

“Are you almost done in there? Honestly you’re worse than your mother.” His father noted.

“Ow, yeah I’m almost done, geez. You want me to look good for school don’t you?” He complained putting in the last lens and grabbed his hairbrush. “Alright...” He grunted brushing through his hair, teasing it and managing it in a way he would deem ‘worthy’. “Okay pops, it’s all yours. I’m outta here!” He rushed himself over to the dining room grabbing a piece of bread slapping a gob of peanut butter on it and folding it in two. Quickly scarfing it down he rushed to his flat top shoes and slipped them on. Taking the guitar and backpack sitting by the door and ran off getting on the bus.

It was a fairly short bus ride all things considered. But the entire time all he could think about was that dream he had. “Who the hell is that girl, why is she in my dreams...Maybe that rocket burger messed with my stomach...That’s the last time I eat that before bed.” He muttered to himself. The bus came to a hissing halt as the doors opened letting the students off the bus.

The jackal walked into the school with a tired yawn. Heading over to the music room like he did in the afternoon, placing his guitar in the sound room. “Alright Dai. Be good alright?” He laughed. He slipped out of the music room and into the lunch room. He sat himself down at a lunch table and pulled out a black square with all sorts of worn stickers over the back from his backpack. Pressing the power button on it he clicked through a list of music turning to the band “Malice Mizer” and just let his headphones rest on his neck.

“You just don’t seem to learn do you Eb?” An oh so familiar voice spoke up.

The male’s ears twitched turning around. “Heheh. I guess not.” He smiled rubbing the back of his head.
“Are you gonna just give me my seat and not be a prick? You know I sit here, every fucking day. Morning and lunch time. Why can’t you just get that through your thick skull?” She jabbed his head with her finger.

“Fine, I can get up. But don’t say I didn’t do you any favors.” He chuckled and moved out of the spot.

“Go hang out with the other creeps like you.” Raven said with disdain.

“Well golly gee wiz I totally would but there is just little old me! Darn it!” He swung his arms in a satirical motion being facetious.

“Haha you know what? You’re actually wrong! There’s more of you now! So you’re not so fucking original!” She pointed across the room to a girl.

Eb looked across the room full of people, he didn’t see anything special. “Oh haha very funny.” He rolled his eyes and stood there.

“Do I have to boot you out of here?? Or are you going to fucking leave me be? I have more important things to be doing than worrying about which of the people in your boy bands has ass cancer.” Some of the people around the table snickered and giggled.

“No. I’m good. I’ll go take a peek for myself. Glad to see you’re not above cancer jokes.” He made a quick verbal jab at her before he swiftly disappeared into the crowd. He pushed himself through the crowds. He finally made his way to the other end of the room only to see the window to the outside. “I knew she was lying.” Eb grumbled.

“Who was lying?” A voice spoke up.

“Oh just Raven, then again she isn’t above lying to get what she wants.” He turned around meeting face to face with what felt like was a ghost! That petticoat, those bright blue eyes! That scarf! “YOU!” He exclaimed nearly dumbfounded. “Why were you in my dream!” He blurted out.

The girl backed up a step. “Because maybe I am some kind of witch that tapped into your brain and saw your innermost thoughts. And I must say I really was surprised to see just how filthy of a mind you have.” She spoke with such a straight face.

“That...” His face turned bright red. “I’m...Speechless.” He murmured. His gaze looked up and down at her, the leggings she wore made the inner thoughts of the young boy squeal with delight. The style she rocked, down to the little hair accessories. She was a pretty little package that couldn’t be opened. Nor did he ever wish to.  “I...That. I’m sorry I seem to have made a complete ass of myself.” He laughed nervously.

The young canine shook her head. “Not a complete ass. Only about one cheek’s worth.” She smiled impishly. “You know it’s generally impolite in most countries to tell people what you dream about of a person on their first impression. Some places will burn you alive for such blasphemy.”

Eb was completely dumbfounded by her response. “I’m sorry. Lemme start that over...I’m Eb, and I totally am sorry about that last blurting. I am sure the monkey on a typewriter that is my brain will do better next time.”

The girl giggled quietly and bowed her head. “Hello Eb, my name is Veronica. I actually just moved here with my family a few days ago. Mom thought it would be wise for me to get enrolled in school as soon as possible. Understandable. But seeing you means I’m no longer the unique one.” She furrowed her brow.

“You know it’s funny Raven said almost the same darn thing to me.” He laughed.

“Cool contacts you got there. You get those from a specialist around here?” She asked. Her tail swayed back and forth.

“Oh these? Heheh I got them a while back online. They’re one of my oldest pairs. Though I’m gonna have to retire them soon. Their expiration date is approaching fast.” He smiled cheekily.

“Oh that’s too bad, they actually stopped selling those like a month or two ago. I never actually got into the whole wearing contacts thing. But they look pretty cool.” She smiled seeming to have a fairly good time.

“So, you’re new around here huh? How about I treat you to a tour of the town after school? I’ll show you some places where the cool kids hang out.” He puffed out his chest trying his best to impress her.

“No thanks.” She put bluntly.

“B-but.” He stammered, before he could even speak up.

“I don’t get along with kids like that. Besides I have things that need doing around the house.” She smiled leaning up giving him a little pat on the cheek.

The school buzzer going off stating it was time for class. “Well Ebbi it’s been swell meeting you, I’ll see you around school!” The young girl scampered off making her way to class.

“Dude, you struck out so fucking hard.” Leon stumbled his way over laughing. “Like I could see you with that baseball bat lining up your shot and you just miffed total air.” He smacked him on the back a few times laughing.

“Dude Bishop, you reek of skunk.” Eb waved a hand in front of his face.

“Hey! I’ll have you know that’s just how I smell!” He paused and leaned in. “I’m just messin with ya. But...Is the weed really that strong on me? Think you can spray me down with some cologne to help mask it?” He asked. “I just don’t need Mr. Vaughn on my case about it y’know?”

Eb shook his head, “No sorry, I haven’t got anything today dude. Pops kinda pushed me out the door today.”

“Aw man! He’s gonna be up my ass all day now!” He smacked his head and marched out of the cafe and into the hallways. Eb stepped into the classroom that said on the door. “Solomon” He walked over to his seat.

“Ah, Mr Indigo. So nice of you to join us; please open your text book to page thirty seven. We are discussing the feasibility of the Witch Trials. Pay attention because there will be a debate at the end of class.” The man in front of the class’s words were sharp and quite uncaring.

The jackal got scolded, as he slipped the zipper of his bag to the other side, pulling out his history book. Slumping back into his chair he slipped his cellphone out from his pocket flicking the volume to vibrate.

The day was seeming to drag on for what felt like an eternity. When the buzzer finally rang through the classroom he got up and walked out. “Well least it’s time for my favorite class. The one where I really shine and don’t have to think that much.” He smirked proudly.

He marched his way downstairs and off to the music room, he seemed as if he was one of the first to class! He opened the door as his ears picked up a very gentle piano tune being played. The melody felt...Mournful almost. With every note a little tug to his emotions could be felt. The song grew louder, as the chords began. Beautiful pictures of sadness played through the boy’s head; but when he saw who was playing it, his heart nearly stopped.

It was Veronica, on the stool playing this haunting melody. Her work on the piano was second to none, even the teacher sat back listening with a very impressed look on her face. When the song finally stopped playing the woman with hazel hair clapped and came closer. “That was beautiful Veronica. Who was that? I’ve never heard such a composition before.” Ms. Faust smiled.

“Oh. That was mine. I call it Ruefulness.” She very plainly stated. Her long tail curled around the leg of the chair. Eb watched her in disbelief, the girl turned around and gave him a friendly smile. “Enjoy the show Ebbi?” She giggled and hopped off the stool.

“Y-yeah, that was...That was incredible.” He said, his words falling short of his expression of delight. “I didn’t know you could play piano like that.” He stared dumbfoundedly.

“There’s a lot you don’t know about me Ebbi, and you’re just gonna have to figure it out as you go along.” She paused, “Do you play an instrument?” She asked.

“Huh? Oh yeah, I play guitar. I mean I’m not at that kind of level, but I play a little bit.” He laughed nervously..

“Show me, I mean you walked in on me playing. The least you can do is show me how you play.” Her tail thrashed with anticipation. Eb stepped over to the sound proof room and sighed.

“We’ve got five minutes tops before class starts so get in quickly.” He pulled the hard case onto the chair and freed his guitar, it was a fairly standard looking electric guitar, black paint job but it had eastern style designs painted sloppily on the guitar. “Mind the crappy exterior, but Daisuke and I have been friends for several years now. He was my training guitar.” He mentioned.

He plugged in the amplifier cord into his guitar and turned it on in a low setting. “Let’s just...” He murmured pulling his pick out and strummed a few times before getting into it. A very harsh discordant sound riffing into a fairly quick pace. “Sun born defective, the rain keeps falling cruelly But even so until it envelops you keep rising high again and again.” He sang along with his guitar playing. Kind of stopping mid song.

“You’ve got a good knack for that guitar of yours, the singing was a nice touch too. Though you need to enunciate more when you sing. You sounded like you were singing with a mouthful of marbles.” She laughed.

“S-sorry, I don’t typically sing for other people. I only ever do that if I’m in the shower, I’m alone or Leon is around, because well...” He trailed off.

“You two are an item. I get it.” She smiled. “Just know I totally support you both.” She had a big smirk on her face.

“N-no! What!? No! We’re in a band together sorta.” He murmured embarrassed.

“Well that’s not what I was expecting. Regardless if you two are gay I totally support you both!” She gave him a thumbs up.

“We’re not gay! Least I’m not...” He muttered, “B-but our band is called the Grievous five. We’re a visual Kei band.” He said proudly. Before he could even continue he heard a hard knock on the door. It was Ms. Faust, motioning for the two to get out and join the class.

Eb walked out with a red face. “Sorry Ms. F. I didn’t realize what the time was.” He stepped over to the large drum in the back of the room, several kids in the room giggled quietly as he walked past them.

“Veronica. I hope to see better of you, please take your place at the piano. We have warm ups to do.” She said with a very primp and proper air to her.

“Sorry ma’am. It was my fault. I asked him to show me his guitar.” She stepped over to the grand piano and sat down. “I am ready when you are Ms. Faust.” She smiled.

The class seemed to be quite lively to say the least for the students. At the end of class the bell rang. “Alright guys and gals it’s lunch time. Why don’t we stop here and we can pick it up on wednesday. Be sure to practice! I cannot stress that enough. Ebenezer, great work on the bass drum you kept the rhythm flawlessly today.” She gave him a thumbs up.

The jackal smiled sheepishly and couldn’t help but chuckle. Veronica slipped from the seat crackling her knuckles and began to push him out the door. “Come on now. It’s lunch time not time for you to stand there looking like a dweeb.”

“Oh right. H-hey wait my guitar!” He stammered being pushed out the doors.

“Nope it’s lunch time, and you need to eat.” She pushed him into the atrium and started on her own way.

“Oh...Okay then but, I usually just go home around this time because I have study hall after lunch and after that it’s just time to go home. Least today anyways.” He fumbled. Turning the conversation around a bit. “So why did you turn down my offer to see the school?” He asked her curiously.

“Because it was corny and incredibly unoriginal. Your style is far from that as I’ve seen.” She smiled. “When you actually have some class maybe I’ll consider it.” She gave the boy a little hope.

“So I have a chance??” He exclaimed.

“No. Probably not.” She shot him down.

“Oh c’mon, you gotta give me a shot, I mean I’ve got a little bit of confidence. I had the confidence to actually ask. “C’mon you gotta at least give me a chance. How about one date. That’s all I am asking.”

Veronica rolled her eyes. “Why are you so adamant on this? All you’re gonna get is disappointed.” She argued.

“Because you’re a pretty cool chick. I mean you actually treat me like...” He paused.

“Like you’re a normal human being?” She commented.

Eb’s face seemed devoid of emotion, his friend Leon coming in quickly and swooping into the conversation. He-hey! You must be the new kid that Eb was talking about. He looked down at her. “You’re uh...You’re a tiny little thing aren’t ya? A little pigmy.” He laughed and patted her on the head.

“Don’t touch me please, sorry I don’t really know you so touching is a no bueno.” She made note. “Also hello, Veronica. Charmed. And I may be short but at least my head isn’t up in the clouds.” She argued.

“Leon’s my name, sorry I didn’t realize. But I will make sure that I keep that in mind.” He smiled.

“Oh my god you’re the one!” She shouted. “You’re the one that’s Eb’s boyfriend!” She pulled out her cellphone. “Get in close I want a picture of the cute couple.”

Leon looked at Ebenezer. “Dude, the fuck did you tell her? Did you seriously tell her we’re gay!?” His voice raised.

“Keep your voice down! Also no, I didn’t! She just assumed for some odd reason we’re a couple!” The two argued.

All the while it started to gain a little attention to the two. “I’m not gay! If you wanna be gay that’s fine but don’t lump me into your gay agenda!” Leon raised his voice once again.

“How cute, a lover’s quarrel.” Veronica giggled.

“S-see what you’ve done?” Eb mentioned.

“I think it’s cute Ebbi.” She giggled.

“And why do you keep calling me Ebbi?” He said flustered.

Veronica looked at him and snubbed up her nose. “Well then. I thought it was cute, and I thought it was a suitable name for you.” She pouted.

“Aw geez...Don’t give me that look.” He rubbed the back of his head. “I guess you can call me it. But no one else can! Not a soul!” He said flustered.

“Yay! Thank you Ebbi.” She said with a big smile.
“Alright well...How about you give me one shot. Give me the chance to sweep you off of your feet please.” Eb pleaded with her.

Veronica rolled her eyes and looked at him. “Fine! If it will get you off my tail? Geez.” A tinge of annoyance hung on her words. “You have one chance to try and woo me. Don’t screw it up.” She poked his belly.

“Wait a minute. Hold on.” Leon finally piped back up. “He pushed Eb closer to her, her head coming up roughly to his waist. “Yeeeeah! There we go! She’s a perfect height!” He laughed.

Veronica turned around giving him a punch to the thigh, before turning back to Ebenezer. “One try, and then if you don’t get it don’t bug me about it please.” She still had that sweet little smile on her face. Zipping off to the lunch room.

Leon looked at him. “Dude. What the heck did you just get yourself into? She’s like...She’s gonna like fuck you up if you don’t woo her dude!” He exclaimed.

“I’ve got this in the bag! I hope...I mean dude, she’s like...She was quite literally my dream girl.” He said in a hushed tone.

“Dude when you say it like that it sounds really creepy.” He said with a dull drawl to his voice.

“I’m serious Leon! Like I never had a feeling like this before in my life! I mean yeah I had that streak where I liked Raven; but that was a long time ago!” He explained away the situation.

“If you think you can do it. I won’t stop ya.” He held out his forearm at an angle. Eb knocking his forearm with his in a crossed X.

“Thanks bro. I’m gonna go and give her a time and such for our little get together!” He zipped over to the cafeteria and let his eyes dart around the room, Finally finding her standing in line for lunch. “So then. For our date.”

“Assumed date.” She stated.

“How about after school today? We can go to the park, I’ll grab us a bite to eat, we can share a little about ourselves. How’s that sound?” His tail wagged furiously,

“I guess so? I mean I guess it can’t hurt. Can I get my lunch in peace Ebbi?” Veronica headed into the luncheon serving area as he waited outside for her eagerly.

“Sure, I just wanted to make sure you knew what the plans were. Meet me outside the school when you’re done class okay??” He zipped off with a spring in his step.

The minutes seemed to drag on as finally that final bell rang, Eb stood outside nervously with his guitar case and his backpack. He rocked back and forth waiting for her. Veronica walked out of the school with all the other kids. Ebenezer waved his hand to her with a big goofy smile on his face. “Shall we get going?” He asked her excitedly.

“Yeah, I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t looking forward to this at first, but after dealing with some of the baloney that I dealt with in my Western Civilizations class. A good bite to eat and a walk would definitely be agreeable.” With every word her breath could be seen hanging in the air.

“Hahahah you’ll get used to it out here.” He smiled “It gets cold like this usually mid October, but it seems fall was a little late coming this year.” His tail wagged.

“Yeah it’s very chilly out here actually.” She looked at him, having no jacket at all. “You gonna be okay like that? I mean it IS pretty cold out.” She mentioned.

“Totally! I mean it won’t be that bad. I remember this one time my brother dared me to go to school with just a tank-top and shorts on in the middle of December. It suuuucked!” He laughed nervously.

Veronica chuckled quietly as the two walked down the hill. “So you have a little brother huh?” She asked him.

“Yeah His name is Victor. “You’ll probably see him around school. The bastard never seems to leave me alone.” He shut an eye rubbing the back of his head.

“So wait, Victor is your brother? He’s in two of my classes.” She spoke up. “Yeah he seemed to have his eyes glued to me every time I looked in his direction. Does he like have a staring problem?” She asked.

“Yeah he’s always been a bit of an odd duck.” He chuckled. The two conversed back and forth until they reached the Rocket Burger down the way. “You’re not a vegetarian are you?” He asked her as they stood outside the familiar establishment.

“Nah, I’m not into that rabbit stuff. I’ll eat it on my food, but I gotta have my protein.” She thrashed her tail. Eb opened the door for the girl letting her into the fairly common layout, A railing to help weave the line. Eb of course cutting the non-existent line going up to the front counter.

“Welcome back Eb! Lemme guess, the usual for you?” The cheerful woman behind the counter asked.

“Yeah I’ll have my usual please.” He smiled to his friend.

“Who’s your friend? She’s quite the looker!” Veronica’s face had a light pink hue to her cheeks.

“Claire, this is my friend Veronica. Veronica this is my friend Claire.” He smiled.

Veronica smiled and looked up at the menu. “I think I will try the spicy crispy chicken and can I get a small strawberry shake please?”  Claire nodded her head and tallied everything up. “Sure total comes to...twelve eighty seven please.”

Eb went rifling through his pockets and realized he had front pockets on his jean vest. Inside the left pocket was a twenty dollar bill. He sighed in relief and handed it to her.

“You didn’t have to do that Ebbi, I could’ve paid for myself.” She spoke up, just a little surprised by his actions.

“What kind of gentleman would I be if I made you go dutch on our first date?” He asked.

“Dut dut dut! I never said there would be a sequel to this. Let’s see how this goes.” She chuckled clearly enjoying herself with him so far.

“Alright, well...How about a bet then? If I woo you on this date you gotta give me a second date. How’s that sound?” He smirked confidently.

“Hmmm. Alright, but I warn you; I’m a tough cookie to woo.” She smiled.

“Number seventeen, your food is ready.” Claire called out to the two.

Eb hustled up to the front and grabbed the food moseying his way back to their booth. The two enjoyed their meal sharing silly little nothings as well as little tidbits about their lives.

“So my family came a long ways to get here. My family came straight from Egypt. We lived in the city Zagazig.” She mentioned.

“So you come from Zigzag alright. Egypt seems pretty cool, lots of sand.” He chuckled. “Ever see a sphinx out there?” He asked snickering.

“First it’s Zagazig, second...” She couldn’t stop herself from giggling. “You’re a dweeb!” She took one of his fries throwing it at him.

When the two finally finished their meals they headed out of the establishment and walked down the street. The winds blew against their backs, a constant reminder of how winter was at their front door. “So you’re into Visual Kei huh?“ She asked.

The jackal nodded his head in affirmation. “Yeah been a fan ever since I was fourteen. I mean I guess that’s kinda one reason I was drawn to you so quickly. When I saw your fashion sense my heart went doki doki.” He chuckled.

Veronica giggled quite amused by all of this, “So my clothes drew you to me and made you start talking about how you dreamt of me?” She had an amused smirk on her face as the two finally arrived in the park. The leaves had all but stayed on the trees that peppered the park. The pond was calm minus the gusts of wind blowing the leaves onto it’s surface.

“That was a mistake, I just happened to see you and I happened to just...Blurt it out. So...I’m sorry if I came off as a creep.” He blushed.

“Aw don’t get so serious. I’m only teasing ya.” She smiled. By this time the winds felt like it was cutting through the jackal. His body trembled in the cold. “You alright there? You said you’d be fine.” She snuggled up with her scarf.

“Y-yeah! I mean heck I could d-do this all d-day!” He shivered.

Veronica rolled her eyes and unfurled some of her scarf throwing it over his neck. “Here, if you’re sick you can’t necessarily woo anyone.” She murmured, their bodies so close together, warmth between the two exchanged to keep each other warm. Moments later the wind seemed to stop; out from the skies above delicate flakes fell from the skies, A perfect ambiance for the two intertwined duo.

Eb looked down at Veronica, the tension between the two. The male leaned in closer to her, his eyes shut leaning in for a gentle kiss. Veronica’s face turned bright pink quickly turning her cheek to him. “U-uh lovely snowfall! First time I’ve gotten to actually see that before.” She quickly changed subject. Far too embarrassed to go through with it.

Eb smiled looking up. “Yeah, it is pretty beautiful isn’t it?” The two paused briefly and looked at each other. “It’s gonna be getting dark soon. I should probably start bringing you home huh?” Ebenezer asked.

“Yeah...” Veronica spoke wistfully. “I mean it was nice. While it lasted.” She smiled up to him.

“What do you say? Were you woo’d? Did I pass the test?” He asked eager to see what she would say.

“Well it was a woo. It wasn’t a woohoo, or even a woowoo. But It’ll do.” She murred.

“So a second date?” He asked.

“I guess I can get behind that.” She giggled.
