Evolution of a Ghost
#3: Pumpkaboo & Gourgeist
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsumEnI5O2k
"The body of Pumpkaboo is a pumpkin inhabited by a spirit trapped in this world. As the sun sets, it becomes restless and active. It is said to carry wandering spirits to the place where they belong so they can move on."

"Singing in eerie voices, Gourgeist wander town streets on the night of the new moon. Anyone who hears their song is cursed. It enwraps its prey in its hairlike arms. It sings joyfully as it observes the suffering of its prey."

I adore these two Pokemon, Gourgeist slightly more so then Pumpkaboo, but it's not by a great margin. When it comes down to it, in terms of favorite Gourgeist probably ties right along with Gengar for my second favorite Pokemon, Gengar probably just wins out of longevity. Why do I like it so much? As if it wasn't bloody obvious. Well, let me make this very clear; I have longed for a Jack-o-Lantern based Pokemon for YEARS; ever since Gold/Silver when we started getting introduced to the idea of even more Pokemon, my mind wandered to the, at that time, greatly under appreciated Ghost-type and I just felt the Jack-o-Lantern was such an obvious idea that it confused me as to why it wasn't ever made. Generation after generation came and I eventually gave up my longing for the pumpkin based Pokemon I wanted, instead residing to my own concepts and fanmade Pokemon ideals of it... but who would have known that just when I had given up hope that it would come?

I remember it clearly; The entire roster of Pokemon for X/Y got leaked while I was at a convention. My friend brought it up, I wasn't overly interested, I wanted to at least attempt to be surprised by the new line up this time and by then I hadn't just given up on a Jack-o-Lantern Pokemon, I had basically given up on the series as a whole. So I peered over casually a few times, till one of my friend's goes "Huh, there's a Jack-o-Lantern Pokemon" I responded by throwing him out of my way so I could see it! Now, I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't overly happy with them when I first saw them, but what it came down to was that they didn't look like how I wanted them to look, a bias I quickly got over.

In an incredibly short time, these two made their ways into my heart as some of my favorite Ghost(and Grass)-types, not just because it was a concept I had wanted for a long time, but because they're a very unique take on something that could have been very generic. I admit my own idea as to what I wanted would have been just that, and taking another look I realized how unexpected these guys' appearances really are, and in very good ways. Most importantly though, they so embody Halloween that it's sickening really. Hell, if I was ranking on that alone, these two would have won hands down... and really, I probably SHOULD have based a HALLOWEEN Countdown on what embodies Halloween the most, but I hate to make the winners of these things too obvious and I had some better ideas as to who or what should best this list. Sorry guys, it just would have been far too expected for you to win, but you're still winners in my book.
