"Hypno holds a pendulum in its hand. Locking eyes with Hypno ensnares it's victim, while unable to move, it uses the arcing movement and glitter of the pendulum lull the foe into a deep state of hypnosis, no matter how alert or awake the victim is. While asleep it will feast upon the victim's dreams, when it is searching for prey, it can be seen polishing the pendulum. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized."
Alright, the Final 5! We made it, and what a Pokemon to start the wrap up of this countdown? Yeah, I really couldn't have a countdown of this caliber without Hypno, he's pretty much the granddaddy of all creepers, and Creepypastas for that matter. Yeah, the lore behind this guy runs pretty deep and honestly I think more kids were scared of this guy then the actual Ghost-types back in the Red/Blue days. While I can definitely see the creepy vibe that Hypno (and Drowzee for that matter) give off, I've honestly never really been that put off by him. Nowadays it's really grown on me, because of the dark lure that's popped up on the internet surrounding it, as well as learning of it's origin, being based off the fabled dream eating demon, Baku from Japan, both of which are real cool and all but back when I first played the Gen 1 games... I didn't think much of 'em.
Yeah, if I'm to be honest, I actually didn't like them much at all. Time has changed that, but even at a young age I never understood why people found Hypno so disturbing, my exact thoughts always being that, what actual harm does eating a dream cause? Apparently a great deal in Pokemon attack logic, but really, it's not like it's eating your soul or cracking open someone's head to get at their dreams, all around it's a fairly harmless, if not just awkward act. I guess just the thought of someone or something doing things to you while you're asleep is enough to disturb anyone, which is fair but I don't know, it just never seemed like a grave sin to do... course I rarely dream as is so why are? Wait... maybe... could it mean? A Hypno's been munchin' on my dreams! Nah~
Of course, in later years they tossed in that kidnapping bit to Hypno, just to up it's creep vibe and by that point, I totally accepted and allowed the overall fear of the Pokemon. These days he's become one of my favorite Psychic-types and probably my top one out of Gen 1, it was going to place higher but I also understood that I was basing this mostly on growing internet paranoia and not my own opinion of the Pokemon. It's a cool creature, but nothing too stellar, I couldn't have a Psychic-type getting too much closer to the top, this month belongs to the Ghosts and other I feel deserved the spots above this, but hey, no.5 is still pretty good! Ya done good, Hypno, ya done good.
