It's Halloween night and the sky is particularly weird and creepy looking. However, that only adds to the atmosphere. What really matters is what costumes the chipmunks are going to wear tonight. Alvin was tasked with buying the ones his brothers asked for. While Alvin ended up buying the correct costume for Theodore, he got a baby costume for Simon, complete with weird looking slippers, a baby shirt, a pacifier, and a very well designed diaper.
Alvin was intent on getting the outfit on Simon while he took the vampire costume Simon wanted. Rather then allow it through a series of humiliating events, Simon spoke to Alvin's inflated ego and made a bet with him. It was a bet that was designed to look as though it relied on skill and athletic ability but in reality, it relied on probability.
"Alright, what's the bet?" Alvin stood with his arms crossed, an impossibly strong smug look on his face. Simon shared a similar look, as this was one of those rare instances where the spirit of the competition made his heart flutter with heated anticipation for what was about to befall his dear older brother.
"Simple." Simon ripped out a piece of paper from his nearby notebook and crumpled it up into a tiny ball. He then grabbed the empty glass bottle of coke that had been collecting dust on Alvin's nightstand for over a week and set it behind the tiny paper ball on the table. "All you have to do is blow this little paper ball into the mouth of this glass bottle."
"Oh-ho. What a challenge. I'm so scared." Alvin laughed as he peered down to the obstacle in front of him. A tiny paper ball was the instrument blocking his way towards witnessing Simon's humiliation this fine Halloween night. "Fine. And if I can get it into the bottle you have to wear the diaper baby outfit. No whining. No exceptions!"
Simon nodded with his arms crossed. "Uh-huh. Yeah sure." He sounded like he couldn't care less. Alvin frowned for the first time at that, his confident defense having been bombarded one time too many by Simon's alien amount of smarmy, nonchalant arrogance.
Theodore looked between the two of them in his werewolf costume and smiled. "Well, let me know when you're ready. I'll be downstairs."
"See ya Theo. Be sure to pack a bottle of formula for Simon while you're down there." Alvin grinned as Simon set the timer to ten minutes.
"Our Halloween cruise around town begins at seven. You have until then to finish this up. If you can't, you lose." Simon reiterated.
"Yeah, yeah. Fire it up already!"
Simon smiled and pressed the button.
It was hilarious to watch. Immediately after the button was pressed, Alvin began blowing into the paper ball repeatedly like some sort of toddler who was having trouble blowing out the candles on his birthday cake. He had to stop to huff and puff constantly and ended up drenched in sweat. Simon sneaked a few photos on his phone of Alvin going cross-eyed while blowing on the paper ball. The best part though was at the end.
Alvin realized he only had a minute left and his heart was thumping up and down in his chest like a jackhammer. His confidence had been shot and what was left was an extremely panicked prankster on the verge of a breakdown. He huffed in one long puff of air and began blowing on the paper ball super hard. He stomped his feet repeatedly on the floor as if that would somehow empower his cheeks to blow more intense winds onto the thing. It was staggering in it's place on the table and wouldn't budge!
Alvin gripped the table so hard his hands turned a bit red. Long after he ran out of breath, he kept blowing on it, which made his face turn blue. His blue face didn't deter him though and he kept it up before his significantly less stubborn body shut down on him. He was expelling air that he no longer had and had done it so hard that his eyes rolled up and he fainted onto the floor. Simon laughed as the timer rang out.
He bent down to his brother and shook him awake. Alvin's eyes rolled a bit in their sockets before he shook his head clear of the stars he was seeing.
"Ugh... I... I lost...? I LOST?! NO WAY! BUT HOW?! YOU-! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Alvin snarled.
"I simply made a bet and you lost. Come now. You think I tampered with it? It's literally just a piece of paper and a bottle." Simon lifted them both up to display this. "I suppose I did neglect to tell you though, that you never had a chance at winning this despite that. Allow me to explain. You see, when you blow towards the bottle, you allow the air pressure inside of it to increase. The increase in air pressure leads to the air flowing back out. When the air blows out it pushes against the paper ball in the opposite direction from which you're blowing on it, which makes it stay still. You never had a chance of blowing it in there."
Alvin's jaw hit the floor.
Simon lifted Alvin's jaw back up to his mouth and cupped his chin with a wicked smirk on his face. Alvin was already blushing and sweating as Simon dangled the diaper in front of his face.
"Aww~! So sorry Alvin. You should have listened to Bill Nye when he told you that Science rules."
Outside on the streets, Simon watched Theodore run happily towards the first door on the block while Simon stood by Alvin ready to go as well. He watched as the blushing, angry, bitter prankster stood out in the open dressed like a baby with tons of the neighboring children passing by and catching glimpses of him. Simon merely chuckled and dropped a word of warning for the boy.
"Remember Alvin, pranks are your thing. Bets are mine!"
