Looks Are Deceiving
#21: Zubat/Golbat/Noctowl/Spinarak & Lunatone

"Zubat avoids sunlight because exposure causes it to become unhealthy. During the daytime, it stays in caves or other dark areas in large groups. It flies expertly in the dark despite having no eyes as it constantly emits ultrasonic waves from it's mouth"
"Golbat loves to drink the blood of living things. It is particularly active in the pitch black of night. This Pokémon flits around in the night skies, seeking fresh blood, attacking it's victims in a stealthy manner. It's fangs can pierce almost any hide and once it starts draining blood it will not stop until it becomes too heavy to fly"

"Noctowl never fails at catching prey in darkness. This Pokémon owes its success to its superior vision that allows it to see in minimal light, and to its soft, supple wings that make no sound in flight. When it needs to think, it rotates its head 180 degrees to sharpen its intellectual power."

"The web spun by Spinarak can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that this Pokémon can determine what kind of prey is touching its web just by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web's strands. It will lie motionless for days, waiting for prey to enter this web."

"Lunatone's health ebbs and flows with the lunar cycle and becomes especially active around the time of the full moon. Instead of walking, it moves by floating in midair using telekinesis. The Pokémon's intimidating red eyes cause all those who see it to become transfixed with fear. This Pokemon was found over 40-years-ago at a location where a meteorite fell. As a result, some people theorize that this Pokémon came from space. However, no one has been able to prove this theory so far"

Wow, really hitting you up on these 'technically not the right category' Pokemon here, aren't I? I know I really loaded up on this one but all of these Pokemon respectively have such a good vibe for the spirit of Halloween, so much so that I truly couldn't decide, nor wanted to exclude one... so I figured, why not have them all? This was actually a lot of fun for me to do as this picture has been in my head for awhile. Back in 2014 when I did my own personal Halloween Countdown representing the various tropes of the holiday, the owl was something I really wanted to add and the pose was basically going to be this right here. Well in the end it obviously got cut but I always kind of regretted it. The picture just screams Halloween, the feeling of the season is just so strong that I felt deep down it was a shame not to include. Well now I got that chance, all I had to do was alter it to be Pokemon designs instead of actual animals.

So as for the Pokemon themselves, these are all ones I'm pretty solidly happy with. I've always been partial to Golbat, it's usually one of my top Flying-types. I've never much cared for Crobat and kept it at that state. Together with Zubat, they are the quintessential hoard Pokemon and I will accept them anyday over Woobat or Swoobat (stupid-ass looking things...) Also, just really find it funny as I looked over the Pokedex entries for these, there's basically nothing about Zubat that makes it anything more interesting then a regular ass bat. No real powers or anything, it's just a fucking bat. I dunno it made me laugh.

Noctowl is a great Pokemon, but I guess I'm biased as I think owls are neat. I tend to not care much for Flying-types or more so the generic "Pidgey" per generation and honestly it's because I just don't have a huge love of birds. I gravitate to the ones I naturally like in real life and they're mostly the really essentric or exotic type birds (still holding out for a flamingo Pokemon one day.) but Hoothoot and Noctowl always had a look I really liked and I tended to use them throughout Gold/Silver. I think a lot of me just found them cool as they were the first examples of Pokemon that could only be found at certain times and when it first came out, that was pretty cool... of course now it's just tedious.

On the subject of Pokemon only found at night, Spinarak is another Pokemon I always liked, and again that may be due to nostalgic vibes as I had Gold when I was younger, and it was exclusive to that game... of course, Spinarak and Ariados royally suck and are virtually useless but hey! They're still cool. I really like spiders... well, that is to say I like the way they look and can be used, in real life I don't much care for them.

And Lunatone... well, Lunatone. Actually, I do quite enjoy it and Solrock and I think purely for the gimmick. I dunno, I enjoy twin type beings. The dichotomy can be a lot of fun and I dunno, I've always found the moon cool in certain media use, whether it be an angry, red eyed moon trying to crush you in three days of a big, dorky, perpetually laughing moon in the sky, it's alright with me. I just wish that Solrock actually had worthwhile special attack so it could be on par with Lunatone and make use of it's actual sun based moves but this is GameFreak we're talking about. I'm still holding out for neither Lunatone nor Solrock to even be native in the region of Pokemon SUN and MOON... but that's me.
