In the Tamers subseries, an alternate timeline in which Adventure 01 and 02 are toy products, the human partners are consistently referred to as Tamers.
This is because Tamers features a far more Pokemon-like physics system for how humans and their Digimon partners interact.
Before the series kicks off, Digimon is a fictional trading card game played with eReaders (Digivices) and digitally signed cards. The human Tamers receive anime-magic Digivices that allow their card scans to willfully empower or control their Digimon partners, whereas in previous seasons, the Digivices effectively operated on their own accord based on emotions and present dangers.
Most Tamers antagonists resent the concept of having a partner because they don't want to feel like an owned pet (i.e. tamed.) Renamon and Ruki / Rika also resent each other at first but warm up over time.

It's a good joke. I've drawn Renamon... I drew Krystal fox not to long ago too.... those are pretty much the biggest rule 34 furry characters right there. This was a commission so I probably wouldn't have done it normally... BUT I really enjoyed drawing it and how it turned out
