Use an explosive charge or a long rifle to remove the device.

Yeah using the rifle may work but from my experience with mortars most have too thick of shell (1in or more) and most of them contain explosives that are not highly sensitive so do not readily detonate. Using an explosive charge would be most likely way of detonating it.

Yeah,  Experience seems to point toward using an explosive or shaped charge to remove the pesky things.  Nicely.
