I saw Ice Age: Collision Course a few weeks ago and I have to say, it wasn't all that bad, but it wasn't all to perfect either. but let me elaborate
Story: This time around, Scrat has gotten himself into space and have caused a great deal of space rocks to start hurdling towards earth. Manny and the rest of the gang including the new characters from the 4th movie, except for Louis the Molehog, who is replaced by this annoyingly dorky boyfriend to Peaches named Julian, are off to find a way to stop the meteorite from hitting the earth along with returning favorite Buck. The story, as it goes along, is pretty ridiculous, for Ice Age standards, but considering all the pain and ridiculous torture that Scrat goes through, I can kind of buy it, plus, their is a subplot involving Manny and his parental relationship with Peaches that can be pretty sweet, but that's about it, other then that, the characters can get pretty dorky and dumb, dumber then they used to be.
Characters: This is the fifth movie, all return from the first, let's just talk about the new, shall we. Julian (Adam DeVine, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Pitch Perfect 1 and 2) is Peaches new dorky boyfriend who wants nothing more then to be apart of the family and wed Peaches. He's kind of what you'd expect from the dorky boyfriend stereotype. Gavin (Nick Offerman, Were the Millers, The Lego Movie) is the villainous Dromaeosaur with his son and daughter who try to take out Buck who keeps screwing up their plans. Shangri Llama (Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Mitchell Pritchett in Modern Family. Seriously, what is it with all these Modern Family people in animation nowadays???) is the leader of Geotopia who loves to do yoga poses and be the Chester V (Cloudy 2) of the movie. Brooke (Jesse J: song Price Tag) is one of the residence of Geotopia who takes a shine to Sid. These new characters, as beautifully designed as they are (except for Julian) are just not the strong enough to help carry the movie, which probably explains why they came later in the movie (except for Julian) it's all left up to the characters from the first movie, Manny, Sid, and Diego, and the other characters who tagged along them from the other movies. Buck is still the character I love the most cause of his outrageous behavior in the movie just like the 3rd movie, even if he has lost some of that badass-ness from the 3rd movie, he still helps me enjoy the film all with the great performance of Simon Pegg
Animation: if theirs one thing that Ice age gets right, its the animation. Characters are rendered nicely with fur effects, water, fire, and environment effects that give it the look that we have grown up with and more. also, some of the new locations like Geotopia are pretty creative and beautiful to look at.
Music: I can't really compliment much on the music on account of it never really stood out all that much to me since nothing felt new or original. all I can say is that Jon Debney (Cutthroat Island, Passion of the Christ, 2016 Jungle Book) You deserve a whole lot better then what you had to work with.
all in all I give this film a 6.5 out of 10. surprisingly, I actually had more fun with this film then I did with Secret Life of Pets because I never seen a full trailer of Pets so I couldn't get into what the story had to offer and didn't provide me with much hype. with Ice Age, I got around to seeing the trailer and cause I saw Buck in it, it had me at least excited for it.
