The reason it's easier is due to how the iron boots work in the 3ds remake. Whereas it involved a lot of pausing, menu navigation, boots on, walk 10 feet, pause, menu, boots off, and thus making the trip very long, the 3ds version has secondary items on the touch screen, letting you slip boots on and take them off without pausing the action, thus letting your mind keep better track of where keys and doors are.

Weird thing is I apparently didn't have any trouble with that temple. It was only later that I found out it was notorious among gamers. Really, the closest I came to doing this was when I went up to the boss door... only to realize I hadn't gotten the key for it yet. Whoops! Had to check the map and explore a little more to find it. Was a little embarrassing.
