Lucas is trying to sleep, and a rather loud attention whore of a red-tailed hawk won't shut up. So Lucas deals with him. No death, but the warning that he had better quit being so annoying when he comes to. Besides, Lucas has already been woken up to where he's not going to get much sleep so he might as well have a big meal to settle him back down.
Hopefully a lesson to particularly loud, boisterous critters - you don't always need to make yourself the center of attention. It rubs people the wrong way and can piss off a large number of other critters. No, we don't want to hear your mating call, let alone have you scream it at us. Dial it back a bit, ok?

Maybe if they were on better terms. But I doubt that the particular fur that this is directed at will ever realize he is being an attention whore to the point it is off-putting to everyone around him, so them sharing the meal that was his former self would not go as well as it would if it were, say, Lucas and Galileo, or some of the others that have nommed Lucas in the past. In that case chef and reformed-food could enjoy food together.
