Well the star thing is just me wanting to make her hair/mane shiny. The swirly patterns, though? You mean the blush? I just do the swirls in the blush so it doesn't look boring. lol
I never thought retrofuturism when doing the shine in the mane, but now that you mention it, they do kind of look like the retro sparkles you see on retro 50s stuff. lol
