Shang doesn't like dressing like a girl, really, even though that's how she prefers to be labeled.
As a child Shang was forced into a more feminine role by her parents and society. The area of China she comes from was very limited in the amount or gender of children one could have. She was made out to look just like the little girl her parents wanted. This left a bad taste in her mouth for very many years, until she was finally able to leave her house on her own.
She doesn't like dresses, skirts, or anything that could make her look anything but tomboy-ish. She doesn't necessarily wear men's clothing but things that would make her look a bit "tough" or "rumble-tumble"
