There's no use in points in Deviantart that's true! Besides buying prints BUT you can turn points into Money , but first you need to be CORE to reach that. There's a Download Option that people can Pay for, that way you have Points automatically transformed into $$$, also a individual list app for your DA profile about points that has the same objective, ... there's a catch when you have money deposited in your account you will have 14 days to wait until you can transfer the money to your Paypal. For the Transfer to work, Deviantart will demand a Paypal Verified account, No... there's no possibility to make transaction to a Unverified Paypal. you can resolve that by Adding Credit Card to your Paypal automatically your Paypal will have verification done!
One sad fact here is...your points will be discounted 20% ...one part will be for Deviantart... For example people think's that 2000pts is 20$ ...That's a lie! 2000pts is in reality 25$
seems low to me actually! I would say your stuff is worth at least 50% or more, like $10, 15, 20, 30, 45 still sounds proper for your quality of work. But thats just my 2 cents xP
