A one-time character who appeared in the Japan-only episode "Julie AmiYumi". It's a shame this episode never made it to the United States, because I would've loved to see it.

The only reason I'm familiar with her (and was able to make this pic) is thanks to some members of the HHPAY fan community.

Yeah, HHPAY was very popular in Japan (since it stars the cartoon versions of the real life J-Pop band Puffy AmiYumi,) and apparently it was more popular there than in the USA. It doesn't help that the current CN employees seem to enjoy keeping the show from ever airing again here...

Boomerang is supposed to be where all the old CN cartoons air; I don't understand why they show cartoons as recent as Teen Titans GO on there now. Of course, I haven't had Boomerang for a few years (as it wasn't available with Charter's TV lineup,) and I haven't had CN (or cable TV) for over a year, so I dunno what either channel is like now.

But it sounds like they're trying to push all the old, good cartoons out with the new, and usually crappy ones.

I doubt that will ever happen, since CN wants to write off everything before the year 2007 as non-existent (at least, that's what I've heard from others.)

I hope CN has another resurgence, as this isn't the first time they've fallen below standards. The last time they became crap was when they pushed the CN Real block on he channel (because they thought that putting live-action shows on a channel called Cartoon Network was such a good idea...) That was short-lived, thankfully, though some of the shows CN Real introduced persisted for a few years after its demise. I also know it had a downfall a while before that as well.

Now that I look at it, it seems like a pattern for CN to screw up, fix its mistakes, only to screw up again farther down the line.

It's because they keep hiring people who don't like animation. Hell, an episode of Teen Titans Go is all about saying "Cartoons are for kids and only kids! So if you're an adult, don't watch or like cartoons!" It goes as far as to say, with its metaphor, the actual line, "[Cartoons] were never cool!" If this is who's in charge of the network, it probably won't recover.

Wow, that's sad. CN is basically committing suicide by hiring people who don't like cartoons. Maybe it's best if CN goes the way of the dinosaurs (and maybe have something better replace it,) as it sounds like they're trying to start the animation apocalypse.

And to make a cartoon character say that cartoons are only for kids and that adults shouldn't watch or like them is just bullshit. I'm really starting to hate CN now; I already didn't like them when they pretty much blocked Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi (which the character in the above pic is from) from ever airing again, but seeing what they've become now, and what they're trying to do is making them out as truly despicable. Maybe it's a good thing I lost cable TV; I don't think I would've wanted to see CN transform into this monster it has become.

You know, maybe you're right. Even Hannah Barbera's toons shifted owners, maybe it's time CN's do, too. It'd certainly allow for people who actually care to take over them. Even if they're still owned by WB, so is Hannah Barbera.

I didn't know Hanna Barbera changed owners. As for CN's possible replacement, it could go either way; they could be replaced by people who care about animation and bring it back from the brink, but I also fear they could be replaced by even more incompetent people. I just don't know what to think.

the only old cartoons on is looney tunes and tom and jerry and they play them more than once every single day like nick does with there sponge cartoon .

Just Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry is how I remember CN's old cartoon lineup, though I remember a time when they only aired Tom & Jerry.

I remember Cartoon Planet bringing back a bunch of semi-old cartoons, like Dexter's Laboratory and Courage the Cowardly Dog, but the block was short-lived. I guess kids these days don't care about old classics like those.

Oh, the kids care just fine. No, the executives who speak for them are just embarrassed that nothing they currently air can hold a candle to them, so they try and make it hard to watch them and easier to watch the new shows, since you can easily make a show a success when it's the only thing they air.

That, and I'm pretty sure the execs come from Bizarro World. I mean, how can you call a universally-hated show like PPG2016 "acclaimed"? Especially after trying to erase the original?

From what I've seen and heard, Cartoon Network is utter crap these days. Since I don't have cable TV anymore, I haven't been able to see their downfall personally. I saw a screencap of their channel lineup recently, and about 90% of it was Teen Titans GO (they seem to really love that show, despite what the viewers think of it, and are trying to shove it down everyone's throat.) There were hardly any other shows in the lineup, and some (like Regular Show) seemed to have been bumped off completely. That, and I also heard that they want to pretend that everything that aired before 2007 never happened. Even Boomerang seems to be going the way of modern CN, which really sucks.

Also, cartoons these days just don't have that same quality and effort put into them that cartoons of the past have. Most of them just look so cheaply made, like the animators don't care about putting effort into them. The only good quality modern cartoon I can think of that I watched was Steven Universe, but even that doesn't stand up to the classics much. I hate seeing whats becoming of cartoons, since I've been watching them pretty much all my life; basically when CN was first introduced, when it was airing Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, pretty much all the Hanna Barbara cartoons, and other classics all the time (and the modern cartoons of the time were shows like Dexter's Laboratory.)

I've heard of how much the PPG reboot messed up (I haven't seen any of it, because like I said, I don't have cable TV,) and it doesn't give me much hope for remakes of any older cartoon now.

I think there are some good cartoons out there. They're just not on CN. But they do feel kinda samey, especially in the visuals. All they can seem to do is flat, leveled camera angles with round and simplistic proportions. And don't get me started on the blatant advertisements for advertisements that make up the world of film animation. Between all this garbage and that stupid R-rated food movie, I'm starting to think the industry is going to crash, and animation will die. Forever.

I've heard good things about non-CN cartoons like Star VS. the Forces of Evil and The Loud House (I never tried Star when it premiered, and I believe The Loud House premiered long after I lost cable TV.) It seems Nickelodeon and the Disney channels are rising again, while CN crumbles (again...)

I've noticed that a lot of the modern cartoons seem to share a bit of the same style; I saw a pic someone made that showed characters from four different shows make a big toothy grin, and the grin was the same shape and size in all of them. It also seems like modern cartoons hate having shading, with Clarence being the biggest offender; both its characters and backgrounds are as bright and colorful as they can be, with little to no shading applied to either (though that didn't make it a bad cartoon.) Regular Show was pretty bad about that, though it had more detailed backgrounds (that were a bit too unnaturally bright.) At least Steven Universe avoided following in those footsteps. The Amazing World of Gumball is unique in that it combines both 2D and CGI animated characters with backgrounds made from real world pictures and videos. But by far the best looking modern cartoon I've seen has to be Over the Garden Wall; I can't say much for the character design (which reminded me of Adventure Time,) but it had some breathtakingly beautiful backgrounds, and it definitely used shading as much as it could. It's too bad it was only a 6-episode miniseries, and I wish more cartoons would be more like OtGW in terms of quality.

I'm curious about that Sausage Party movie (the R-rated food movie you mentioned,) mainly because I've never seen an R-rated CGI-animated movie before. I've only seen it advertised once, and haven't heard any reviews on it yet, so I dunno if it's worth watching or not. But you did bring up something else I've become aware of: animated movies are pretty much all CGI now, and never traditional animation; all because CGI is cheaper to make (god people are getting so greedy...)

I hope an animation industry crash doesn't happen, but something needs to be done to get out of this slump in its quality. And I doubt animation as a whole would die; it would probably come back after something revolutionary, just like how Nintendo, the NES, and Super Mario Brothers saved the video game industry after the Atari E.T. game (supposedly) caused it to crash.

Yeah, there's the problem with citing previous crashes. People liked video games back then. People still do. Video games can tell whatever story they want now. Comics crashed in the 90's, people still liked them, and they can tell whatever story they want. Animation doesn't command the same respect comics and video games do. In fact, it doesn't command any respect at all. It is the only medium of storytelling to be shackled, to not be allowed to tell whatever story it wants. It's either for children, or for man-children.

Case in point, Sausage Party. Bits of the script were leaked online, and the reception was negative. Offensive jokes, an orgy scene, it was like anything you'd see on [adult swim], with no more maturity than a metal-loving teenager's room decorations. Which puts us in a bad scenario: If it succeeds, more of its kind will be made, and it'll continue the stereotype that animation is only for the immature. If it fails, then the execs will, as always, see the wrong idea, and no one will be able to make an animated movie for adults ever because they'll remember the failure of the movie and incorrectly cite the reasons why it failed.

So because of all these problems, the industry is going to crash. And because the general public doesn't respect animation as much as video games and comics, then it will never come back.

I didn't know that. I didn't know that animation wasn't as respected as video games or comics. Now I'm starting to fear an age without cartoons (since you make it sound like even old cartoons and animation will burn with the industry.)

I'm hoping other big-name animators won't let that happen. Disney still makes good movies, even though their animation is all CGI, as they closed their 2D animation department. Then again, I'm starting to think it's 2D animation in general that will go extinct. I wish more people would realize what's going on and try to do something about it.

Society will probably see cartoons as relics of an older society. They'll probably compare them to Hieroglyphics or cave paintings as something that was an obsolete form of storytelling. And if you're looking for Disney to make change, don't bother. Disney only cares about making money, and they're not above making it dishonestly. Recall the Mickey Mouse Copyright Extension Act. Their standards are so backwards, so set in a long-outdated mentality, that they're willing to manipulate the statistics to survive, and are not above bribing critics or buying failing media companies to grow even more powerful. Worse, since ABC owns the Oscars, and ABC is owned by Disney, they're able to buy the Oscar illegitimately even when other entries are more deserving. How do you think Brave, the lowest scoring movie on Rotten Tomatoes of the nominations got the Oscar? It's pure politics designed to make them all powerful.

I'm well aware of Disney becoming one of the Adolf Hitlers of copyright nazis, and I'm not happy about it. They, along with Nintendo, are trying to compete with Viacom as the most greedy, anti-fair use company on earth. Viacom is the most vile and hated of them, and I pray that Disney and Nintendo don't try to sink that low (but they're well on their way.)

I would've rather not known that. I've begun to hate Disney and Nintendo for basically becoming Viacom #2 and Viacom #3, but despite that, they still make quality content.

I'd like to end the conversation here, as this subject stresses me out greatly. It also makes me a bit depressed, and makes me lose hope in humanity.
