I think RML had an average-length lifespan for its time. It had 4 seasons, while some of the more recent cartoons have had less than that. I don't think him having a lasting girlfriend would have really made a difference in the show's lifespan.
Adventure Time had a well-above average lifespan for a cartoon; I believe it premiered in 2010, which means it has been airing for over 6 years. Most cartoons only last half that length, and those that do usually end up going stale, like what happened with Spongebob; avoiding that is probably one reason why the AT creators are finally ending the show.
