Here are what Nightshade and Luminous were up too after the Core of Light was destroyed in the console version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.
It says on Nightshade's biography, he was rumored to finally retire after the Core was destroyed by Kaos, cutting the Dark Realm off from Skylands, and of course that possibly cause Nightshade to lose his dark powers.
It also says on Luminous' biography when the Core was destroyed by Kaos, cutting off the Light Realm off from Skylands, Luminous was then stranded in the Light Realm, but also got him the chance to steal the Starlight for himself to extinguish the darkness, but was protected by the Trap Master Skylander of the Light Element named Knight Light, so without warning, the evil overlord of the Light Element attacked as they then had an epic battle that lasted several days, until in the end, Knight Light won the battle, and was able to imprison Luminous in the Sunscraper Spire so he can no longer pose a threat to Skylands anymore.
Three years later, when Cloudcracker Prison was destroyed by Kaos to free the Doom Raiders and other villains to strengthen his dark army, the Light and Dark realms returned to Skylands.
For Nightshade, when the Dark Realm and everything related to the Dark Element returned, and possibly giving him his dark powers back, the Midnight Museum then appeared and is about to host one of Skylands' rarest treasures called the Dark Eye of Unvisibility, so then the thief decided to go on one last heist to steal it so he can use its dark powers to steal everything in Skylands.
And for Luminous, when the Light Realm and everything related to the Light Element returned, the Sunscraper Spire then appeared and when the Skylanders and Mags are out investigating, Luminous found it the only way to escape his prison forever, as he then uses his shapeshifting ability to impersonate the undead inventor to trick the heroes into freeing him, and generate the massive power of the Light Element too.
However, both have their attempts failed as they are all captured, but they accepted their Traptanium capture anyways.
Headcanon's I made up:
Nightshade is a Mabu *Due to the fact he looks like Flynn*, and his real name is Nathan.
Luminous is born a prince.
Skylanders: Giants takes place a year later from Spyro's Adventure, while Swap Force takes place a year later from Giants, and Trap Team takes place a year later from Swap Force, so the timeline of Skylanders: Trap Team and Skylanders: SuperChargers take place in the current timeline in the Skylanders series.
After the events Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and prior to the events of Skylanders: Trap Team, Nightshade and Luminous' fellow Doom Raiders were aware Nightshade's retired, but are unaware of Luminous' current whereabouts, as they thought he mysteriously disappeared.
