And there she is! 5 years old... I mean this was created 5 years ago!

We had a class where I had a hole semester to make our own project... So being as bold as I am, I decided to do something never done before in the history of that college and create a figure (Funny story: the every next year someone tried to copy me as that person asked for my help^^)

But this involved first sketching out Rocketgirl at orthographic angles which were used to created a 3D model in Maya.... I didn't rig the model to pose her because if anyone has ever done that, it's increasingly time consuming and didn't fit to my limited schedule... Next step was to create a 3D print of her via 3D printer which was then used to make a silicon rubber cast mold... I read about molds on KidRobot's forums as there are a hole bunch of figure nerds over there if any of you are interested in that kind of stuff.... The mold was filled with liquid vinyl and I wish I had something called a Rotocaster which rotates the mold in 360 axis to create a hollow figure and thus using less liquid vinyl as that shit is expensive! In the end, I put about $500 out of my own pocket which could have been more but managed to get the 3D print for free^^

A+ marks btw

Cheers!

Cute.

Any chance on remaking this idea?

I could... but I don't have the money to invest into a project like this atm.

Could always begin planning, draft up some ideas for some different figures, prepare casts.

And a kickstarter wouldn't hurt.

If I ever made a new figure, it would probably be something like this: https://inkbunny.net/submissionview.php?id=919200 thou altered a bit to hide attachment lines as It wouldn't be possible to make as a solid piece

Yes. A thousand times yes. Although I would want it to be a bit more SFW, Would pay a little more to have it so.

Should try ceramics and glossed paint, though. May be easier on the wallet. Maybe?

Well an Air Brush would help painting... and probably an air sander too to polish the model

Well, you're right! The actual figure is a little bit cooler then just the box! :-) It's just, I've taken design courses myself in college, so I know how much you have to invest in even the little details.

Again, thanks for posting your college stuff. I think it adds variety to your already awesome overall profile!

Thank you. We actually had to make the box and I kind of cheeped out and just used some heavy paper paper which doesn't bend at 90 degree angles every well^^ You can't tell, but there is a lot of glue and tape hidden inside holding that box together!

our money is plastic so it might actually stick to a screen via static^^

Sooo costly. Glad to see your  hard work paid off but damn $500. What would you have to see them at to make a profit ?

well the bottles of liquid silicon for the model were like $80 each for only 500ml... I needed 3. the bottles of vinyl were about the same.. I made about 8 figures total. plus stuff like clamps and wood I also need to hold the crazy 3 piece mold together because I wanted to make her in one solid piece (I regret doing)... Good thing the 3D print was free because they were going to charge me $400+ for the little 6" figure if it wasn't^^

Nice work!

FWIW, if you do try again sometime, you don't really need an expensive roto machine to make a hollow cast. You can rig up a "rotisserie" type thing with a handle and just crank it by hand while the vinyl (or resin, or whatever) sets.   Insert "spitroast" reference here.

oh well yeah. lots of people create their own makeshift ones. it's way cheaper for sure and gets the job done just the same. I would if I got more into model making... Maybe next time^^
