Honest question for anyone who cares to respond:  Does it look like the guy on the right is in the foreground and the girls are in the background?  Or does it just look like they're standing next to a giant who's sitting down?

I'm trying to get a grip on greater depth of field.  I used to be able to draw a decent background, but I've forgotten a fair bit.  I want to put something in that space behind the characters, but nothing distracting.

Now I know why I like windows so much:  It's easier to draw a background when you have a window frame clipping the view, forcing the picture plane, and separating it from the foreground.  Outdoors, with nothing to limit the view, the picture plane just spreads all over the place and becomes three-dimensional.  Which would be great if I could just remember how to arrange everything.

I'd say the perspective looks about right, didn't look like a giant man to me. :-)

The guy on the right does appear closer, but isn't the main subject of the image since even in this sketch he does seem to be a bit out of focus.

That's a good question.  Not sure if I should put sharper outlines on him, or let the viewer's attention wander to the background.

Framed differently

You've got a very wide field of view for a very narrow focus. (This would be an ultra wide shot/fisheye lense as a photograph)

Ah, those are really helpful.  I like the wide version.  I'll probably do a similar crop, but show just a bit more legs.  Thanks!
