Shanti and Koda are members of a tribe of fenra that resides in a jungle surrounding the golden city Halo'koti, domain of the sun fenra Lashka and Matief. Because they do not live within the city walls, Shanti and Koda are free fenra and are not subject to the sun fenras' rule.
Though still young and inexperienced, Shanti is known and respected by her tribe for showing responsibility uncommon for her age. Having a strong motherly instinct, she takes it upon herself to care for the tribe's young fenra and can usually be found teaching and playing with the little ones. When she is not alone with her partner Koda or watching after her young wards, Shanti makes trips to Halo'koti to trade goods to the sun fenra for things that her village needs. Despite being hard-working and responsible Shanti is still very naive, having yet to be exposed to any of the true hardship that exists in the world.
Koda is very gentle and unaggressive, shying away from fighting and confrontation. His personality has kept him from joining the other young males and becoming a warrior to help protect the tribe, prompting him, instead, to work in the village's grove. Koda's love for working in the grove and tending to the plants in his personal garden is second only to his love for Shanti. Any time he spends away from her, he spends cultivating his plants and practicing his magic, two things at which he excels. Like the others in his tribe, he is able to use his magic to promote the growth of plant life and cure his crops of any maladies that might befall them, but unlike most of the others, Koda also has the rare ability to manipulate flora in a much more spectacular way than causing his pompil trees to bear fruit overnight.
