The specific relationship between Atreyu Samson (center left) and Dolores Manning (center right) is covered in another submission but the family unit as a whole will be discussed here. Obviously the center 2 were made first being the main playable characters of the game but Timothy Barlow (second from the left) and Star Saltwater (second from the right) came about when scripts requiring interaction outside of the happy couple were needed. Almost shoveled in to patch a hole the original children were hardly rounded characters but even after whole families were made for the two of them fans still wanted a closer interaction with them and so the idea of them being adopted just fell into place. Star lost her family in a totally stable way that tied her heavily to the family but Timmy on the other hand was a lot more difficult. His family wouldn't be denied that quickly and fans liked the idea of him having his own life. However other fans wanted him to get adopted so the plot of social services ceasing the child so you can adopt it was a smooth choice. This and many other factors in the design stages lead to the kids being pretty important characters and soon scripts flooded in. Finally the family began to take shape. Timmy's pet Champion (far left) and Star's pet Snowy (far right) followed after. As a unit the individuals never fall into the slot of their roles in the family and always have their own individuality. Dolly can be a bossy little something but Tray is smart enough to know how to play her like a fiddle. Timmy is the more practical one who does the work and he's also the most outgoing one overall, which is good news as Star is very cautious and needs a close friend to get her to enjoy herself. Dolly and Star are very good together as Dolly's fearless friendly attitude can show her the world is an okay place. Likewise Tray and Timmy are a formidable team of brain power. Tray's more reserved nature caters to Star's mindset whereas Dolly can be overbearing and Dolly and Timmy are both energetic and fun loving more than Tray's slow mo approach. Between them they make a perfect family unit and the Samming family have all the necessary parts to survive in the big wide world.
