Head Team Rocket bioengineering researcher Callus Ronstell Personal log

It has been two months since the scouting team recovered the red gemstone that impacted the planet north of Mt. Silver. Our researchers have had little luck determining the nature of the stone, but several lab assistants have reported mild headaches while within its vicinity. Will continue to monitor and document any further developments.
The stone appears to give off faint telepathic vibrations every 13 minutes, give or take 10 seconds. How the initial research team failed to observe this is beyond me. Nevertheless, it seems we have figured out the cause behind the headaches.
The headaches are increasing in severity and range. Currently anyone who steps into the storage lab where the stone is kept is inflicted within seconds. Some have also started to complain about hearing a strange voice while inside the room. When questioned as to what the voice was saying, all victims said only one word: Body. A body? Is this inanimate space jewel some kind of parasite that requires a host? I'll make a call to the higher ups in the morning. If we could somehow grant this thing a mobile form, we might be able to communicate and learn more about it.

The superiors agreed to allow me to pursue my little side project with the gem, so long as it is properly recorded. For the time being, I am going to be calling the project Redstone. We've set up an incubation tank for it and began to experiment with different genetic material from various pokemon. Of course, we started with human DNA but there was no notable reaction. Right now we are testing samples of 500 different pokemon. This may take a while...

success! After hours of no results, the stone reacted to the DNA sample of a lucario. But why this species? What made the hundreds of others incompatible? As intriguing as this question is, the more important matter at hand is way in which the stone reacted: Upon contact with the sample, the redstone immediately began pulsing wildly. 3 minutes and 58 seconds later, the pulsing subsided into what can only be described as a heartbeat. The team and I were awestruck by the event. I quickly ordered them to retrieve various biomatter to put into the tank. If I'm right, then this stone is likely some sort of multipurpose biological core.
The redstone has collected the gathered biomatter around itself into a makeshift embryo. The incubation tank should provide enough nourishment to allow it to grow further. For now, all we can do now is wait and see what develops.
The embryo has developed quicker than anticipated. Already we can observe the distinct body shape of a small riolu within, and even some small brain activity. By our estimations, it should reach full form within 3 months.
The riolu has... taken on an interesting form than the normal. The usual blue coat is almost blood red. On the back of its head are two small horn-like nubs. The odd yellow collar is a dark blue. And still, that redstone is plainly visible, situated right in the middle of its chest. Even more questions that will likely go unanswered.
Although the body is fully developed by newborn pokemon standards, we have yet to observe the creature so much as twitch in its infantile sleep. Another topic for another day, I suppose...
A side note on how I came up with the whole core thing: I liked having Din be able to regenerate any lost or damaged part of his body, but didn't have a solid reason as to how he did it. Then I remembered a concept from the Day the Earth Stood Still remake, where they discover that in order for the alien visitor to withstand Earth's atmosphere, it had to be born here. So it arrived in a uterus style suit that changed its physiology to better match a human. From that I theorized that everything that is Din is contained in that red gemstone. The rest of his body is nothing more than a biological vehicle, a way for the stone entity to interact with whatever inhabited planet it landed on. If the body sustained too much damage, it would simply repair itself.
With this, I can say that Din has millions of years worth of memories, life experiences and skills. But all of that gets locked away with each new iteration. He has to start fresh with every new form. The only way to truly unlock and access his full memory is to completely destroy whatever body he has. Leave nothing to regenerate from. All that will remain is the stone, which for some reason is absolutely indestructible. This causes his consciousness to go into hibernation inside the stone, where he is able to view and learn from his extensive past.
