This is something I've wanted to do for awhile and have been eagerly awaiting St. Patrick's Day to do it. Yes. It's fanart of the Leprechaun from the films of the same name. Why? Because fuck you, that's why! While I'm no stranger to liking crappy horror films, the Leprechaun series has always been one I've specifically defended, not because they're good (because they certainly aren't) but because they were exactly trying to be. The biggest thing I always see argued about these movies is "they tried making a leprechaun scary? How stupid!" when in truth, if you know ANYTHING about the lure... the films are probably the most accurate depictions of the legends out there... well, maybe that's a stretch, but I digress! Leprechauns were never cheery little cereal mascots, they were nasty little mischief makers that were consumed by greed. Cheery? Sure, but for all the wrong reasons and I think that's why I defend these movies. It's nice to see something a bit more akin to the original tales of the "wee people"
But really, when you get down to it, what REALLY make these movies great? Warwick fucking Davis! Seriously, you have an already great actor who clearly saw the script, said "this is shit, but I'm gonna have fun with it!" and did just that! You can tell he had a blast being that character and it really shines through. Stupid, sure, but the character of the Leprechaun is so entertaining to watch because of him. He just so embodies that vicious little trickster~
I may have just bought all the films on DVD and am marathoning the for St. Patty's... don't judge me!
