The sun was shining and there was a small cool breeze. The sky was painted in a nice baby blue with a few billowy clouds. After a short ten minute walk, which felt like hours I finally reached her house. I took a deep breath to gather my nerves and slowly walked up the path that lead to the door. I went over what I planned on saying one more time in my head. I knocked three times and waited. Half of me wanted her to be home, meanwhile the other half wanted her to be gone. I tried to listen for paw steps or any movement. Anything to tell me if she was home or not. I heard some paws get closer then the doorknob started to turn. My stomach was in my gut at this point.
When the door opened her beautiful light brown cat fur caught the sunlight and it seemed to shine off her. She was wearing pj shorts and a simple worn out T, and yet she was still so beautiful. Then again, she could have been wearing sweats or rags, and it wouldn’t make one difference.
“Good morning Proxy...d-did I wake you? I know I should have called first but I-” I said but she cut me off with her tail that was gently placed on my mouth. Her scent filled my nose and made my heart beat faster.
“It’s fine Molly. I was just having a lazy day. You know watching movies and being a junk food junkie.” She giggled and smiled wide. Her white teeth almost sparkling as her whiskers perked up on her cheeks.
Her contagious could smile almost made me forget everything, almost. I cleared my throat and she moved her tail from my mouth and slowly dropped down.
“Sorry. Would you like to come in? We can have a lazy day together!” She said sounding cheerful.
I nodded and walked in. I closed the door behind me with my tail as she grabbed my paw and lead me to the living room. She was right about having a lazy day. Her living room had the world’s comfy couch which now was covered in blankets and pillows. Her coffee table in front off it had yummy treats and all sorts of junk food and drinks.
“Looks like you weren’t planning to move for a while. How long have you been camping out?” I asked trying to hold back on laughing.
“Since last night. I wanted to finish a series then Netflix thought I would like a similar one and here I am.” She said sounding embarrassed.
“Well now you won’t have to do that alone! Count me in!” I said and sat on the couch and put a few blankets over me and moved some pillows around.
“We should make a pillow fort!” I said and Proxy squealed with excitement. She pounced onto the couch and we kicked the blankets and pillows off the couch.She ran to her dining room and grabbed a few chairs while I moved the coffee table aside. It took us a little over half an hour to complete the perfect fort. We put two chairs on either side of the couch and a blanket over them that stretched from side to side the pillows we put so they were standing to keep the blanket off us. We put two chairs by the coffee table on either side to we have the other half of the blanket reach to the coffee table. We used the rest of the pillows to cover the sides on the floor. It was the perfect fort.
We sat on the couch and she resumed the TV show she was watching before I came over. I had my arm around her shoulders and her tail was cradling her paws. She looked so adorable in my arms.
“Molly? Why did you come over?” She said breaking the silence and looked up at me, waiting for an answer. I started to feel nervous again.
“I came over because there’s been something I’ve been wanting to tell you.” I said and took a deep breath before speaking again,” I really like you Proxy. You make me happy and since we met and became friends I just couldn’t help but fall for you.”
“Molly…” She paused for a few seconds but it felt like days,”Molly, I like you too.” She finally said then kissed my cheek.
I felt like I was walking on air. My crush, my Proxy, likes me too.
“Oh! I’m so glad you came over!” She said and hugged me.
I hugged her back and we held each other. Even though the sound of the TV I could still hear her heart beat. It was like music to my ears. Her breathing started to slow and I looked at her slowly fall asleep. Looks like all she was finally crashing after her all nighter. Her light brown fur almost seemed to turn to a tan like color as it blended in with my white and gray fur as she snuggled into me and used me as a pillow and blanket.
I wanted to live in this moment forever. With her in my arms, sleeping so softly. Looking so adorable and so tired. In our pillow and blanket fort, with just the sound of the TV.
And then Proxy started to snore loudly in her sleep.
