Duchess: "For every promise I've made, I only ever failed to keep one. only one. My Mother told me to never cry when I was to be crowned and take the thrown in her place. I promised to not cry."
Duchess had barely started drawing the finishing touches to a drawing she had started making. a Get well card for her mother who had become Ill after a rival kingdom had sent an assassin to dethrone Queen Meadow. A tiny nick of the assassin's poisoned blade was all it took to bring the Queen to a terrible sickness, but Duchess was assured by the royal staff that her mother would be alright. just as she was about to finish writing her message to her mother, the Stewardess who held the position before Noir entered Duchess's room. Duchess herself was only a few years old, and her younger sister Ivy hadn't even hatched from her egg yet. But Duchess was brought to the throne room, and was sat there while the captain of the royal guard placed the Crown Flower on Duchess's head. Confused, Duchess held onto her unfinished drawing while the thrown was lifted up by the handles build into it as guardsmen paraded Duchess out into the kingdom for the subjects to see their newly crowned queen. Duchess realizing that as Tradition, the moment the current queen is pronounced dead, her successor is to be crowned. so that the throne isn't empty for longer than only minutes.
Duchess struggled to hold her promise to not cry as the thought sank in that she wouldn't be able to give her drawing to her mother. But she couldn't stop her tears when she was brought to the place where her mother's casket had been prepared, and ceremonially burned. And Duchess failed to keep her promise.
