"This is your fault! This is all your fault!" I growled as I grabbed hold of the wolf's forearm in a bone crushing grip with one hand while my other arm wrapped around my swollen belly. That part of my body had been growing in size for the past six months as life grew inside. Nine months ago a one-night stand between me and a customer from Club Rouge, Dave, had lead to a bun in the oven. In retrospect it probably would've been a wise idea to use protection that night. The wolf had become a regular at the club and I pulled him aside one day after I found out I was expectant. He had been shocked at first, but he did promise to help me in anyway he could. He backed his promise up by accompanying me to every appointment and calling every evening before bed and every morning during breakfast just to ask me how I was feeling and how my day had been, after exchanging our addresses, he frequently visited aswell and often stayed the night. After telling the father of the baby, we told my friends and his friends and family next. Rouge already knew as she was the one to shove a pregnancy test in my face when I had begun to experience morning sickness, but the others just simply conveyed how not-so-surprised they were. Apparently they had seen this coming from a mile away. Sonic just seemed a bit bumped someone beat him to it. One speedy hedgehog diving in bed with another speedy hedgehog could only lead to speedy hedgehoglets, after all. Dave's friends reacted generally positive to the news, but his parents not so much. The fact I was a one-night stand instead a long-term relationship or his wife didn't sit well with the older couple. His old woman was convinced I purposely got myself knocked up to get a share of their fortune, apparently I got pregnant of the one one-night stand who just so happened to be absolutely loaded with cash, and his old man was just down he didn't manage to catch someone as young and 'perky' as me to complete his midlifecrisis. They were a very miserable couple. And, no, this wasn't just one bun. I was pregnant of a pair of twins. The doctor didn't tell us what genders they were or what species they were because we wanted it to be a surprise. I expected myself to be excited to finally know when the day of their birth would come, but all I could think off was how badly I wanted them out of me already. Dave, on the other hand, would simply be glad when the moment I would finally stop breaking every bone in his arm would come. "Shadow, babe, I'm trying to drive." Dave tried to grin and stay friendly while pain erupted in his arm. His flirty and forward behaviour had vanished months ago to make way for a more gentle and kind one ever since I told him I was carrying. He wanted to go easy on me during my pregnancy and during labour. "Well, drive faster! They want out now, Dave!" I told him and growled as another contraction ran through my body. I had awoken last night to cramps in my abdomen, but it wasn't until well in the afternoon that they had turned into full-blown contractions. My water had broken little over half an hour ago and already it felt like they wanted to come out. "... Can't you-" "I swear to Chaos, if you're about to suggest I keep them in, I will not hesitate to punch you!" I threatened, my temper flaring because of the pain I felt. "What? No, of course not." The wolf muttered, not really knowing what to do or say in this situation. I had called him awake early in morning to tell him that I may or may not be in labour and he had come rushing over. He attempted to deal with the situation as the level-headed one in this situation, but not only was he trying to comprehend he was about to become a father, I wasn't exactly making it easy on him either. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Dave parked the car in the parking lot of the hospital. He jumped out of the vehicle and ran to the passenger side to open the door and help me out. I whined as I stood up and held tightly onto his jacket while my face buried itself in his chest when the so maniest contraction ran through my body. Dave could only stand there and rub my upper back, at a complete loss on what to do. When I had recuperated a little, Dave urged me inside and we registered me at the counter. We were told to wait for a doctor and that's what we did. It took close to ten minutes before a doctor finally came and brought us to our room for today. A nurse helped me dress into a hospital robe and performed the usual tests like ultra sounds and such. After that was another long time of waiting as my cervix had to dilate in order for the first half of the twins to pass through. And damn did it take a long time. By the time I finally felt the urge to push come to me and we were finally told I was dilated enough, it was already evening. My legs were propped up on the leg holder, the covers pulled back and the doctor took his position before giving me instructions. Push, breath, push, breath, push, breath. The neverending cycle kept on going as I growled and snarled, my body losing what strength it had, wreaked by pain and covered in sweat. Dave stayed by my side and encouraged me to keep going, his hands holding mine in a tight grip even while I reduced the bones in that limb to dust. 1am arrived and the first of the twins came into the world. It was a little boy, a wolf. After he had been cleaned, checked over and handed over to me to hold, we could see that his fur colours consisted of grey, shades of white and shades of red. For a moment my pain and exhaustion was forgotten as I could only stare as the ball of fur slept in my arms, even more exhausted than I was. He was handsome, he was adorable. We were both mesmerized by him. Dave simply had no words to describe what he felt. He was overwhelmed by it all. But the moment came to an end when a new contraction hit me, alerting us of the arrival of our second child. The short break had given me some time to recover a bit of strength, but this birth was even more arduous then before. My birth canal was already stretched by the first twin, but I didn't have as much strength with this one as I had when I first began to push. Dave held our boy as he stayed by my side, urging me on, telling me how great of a job I was doing. Heh, I was being so loud that our son even woke up and cried. Close to 2am, the second twin came into the world aswell. It was a little girl, another wolf. Her fur was pitch black with white mixed in aswell. She was beautiful, she was healthy, she was perfect. Both twins were wolves. As much as I claimed to be the one and only Ultimate Lifeform, Gerald made sure I would stay the one and only. I barely even felt the last phase of labour, the afterbirth, as I was much to engrossed in our twins. Two children, two mobian wolves, a boy and a girl. Both were perfect. I simply had no words to describe them. They were two precious gifts, ones I will treasure for the rest of my existence. "I'm proud of you." Dave told me, our boy still in his arms, as he pecked a kiss on my forehead and took a seat on the edge of the bed, figuring it was safe to join me now. I moved to rest my head on my shoulder and briefly let my eyes slip shut as I felt so incredibly tired. But it didn't take long before I just had to look at our twins again. Unbelievable. I cannot comprehend it, Dave could not wrap his head around it either. While I was pregnant, we had never really been able to decide if we were going to be official or not, but now we shared a long, loving kiss while our twins slept in our arms. I was a mother and Dave was a father. Looks like my hunt for mates has come to an end.
