Duel Monster Saviors
Ch. 10 – Parents Day
Written by TheAmariaShadow

After Onyx and Leslie’s duel against Chancellor Muto and Mr. Wheeler a few days ago, things tended to slow down here at Duel Academy. Mokuba also looked at Onyx and Leslie with an even darker shade of jealousy, knowing that he was getting trounced every time by the Red Wonder. As for me, I continued with my days at the Academy just knowing how far my brother and I were going to go. I couldn’t think of anything that could change how things were going. That is….until today, that is….

I walked into the computer classroom alongside my brother and Mikey, sitting in our familiar spots in the front of the class. I looked around and noticed that our teacher still hadn’t arrived, which was odd since they were normally here before everyone else. “Huh, I wonder where Prof. Misawa is?”, I asked out loud. Jessie walked in and sat down next to me and said, “There’s a rumor floating around that Prof. Misawa has to take a leave of absence. Prof. Nomura is going to be teaching us until the Chancellors can find a replacement.” Onyx groaned when Jessie said that. “Uncle Yami again? Honestly, the guy isn’t completely there. I honestly wonder how he got a job here anyway.”, Onyx stated. Mikey chuckled, then looked up as his face turned to one of shock. “I got this job due to being a good teacher, Onyx. Never forget that.”, a cold voice said. Onyx looked up, only to get smacked on the head with a book that was being held by Yami. “Ow!!! That was uncalled for!”, Onyx said, rubbing his head gently. Yami cleared his throat as the remainder of the class walked in and said, “Alright, everyone. As you already know, Prof. Bastion Misawa has taken ill, so he has been given a leave of absence while he recuperates. I shall be your teacher for today, and your substitute will arrive first thing tonight.”

Mikey raised his hand and asked, “Prof. Nomura, exactly what is our substitute teacher like?” Yami shook his head when Mikey asked. “The only thing that I know of is that she is quite skilled with a computer. She’ll also be the assistant gym teacher that we have been waiting for quite some time. On a side note, tomorrow is Parents’ Day, and the invites to the campus has been sent out to each of your parent in progression.”, Yami stated. Onyx raised an eyebrow when Yami said that. ‘What’s Parents’ Day?’, he thought quietly to himself. “Parents’ Day is basically a day where not only do your parents get to hear a detailed report of your lives here, but also get to spend an entire day alongside their children. During that day, they will sit alongside them in their classes as well as join them for a decent meal and see the living locations of their children.”, Yami inquired for the ones that were looking at him with a confused look.

As Yami began teaching the class, both Onyx and I immediately looked at each other in worry. Sure, we both live with no regrets, but our parents are two people who…..well, there was just enough known about them for us to worry about how things would turn out tomorrow. Once classes ended for the day, we immediately went to the cafeteria to enjoy a decent meal with our friends…

“So, I overheard some of the teachers speaking about the replacement for Prof. Misawa. Apparently, she’s an Egyptian.”, Mikey stated while nibbling into a meatball. “I wonder what kind of person she is. Is she nice, funny, strict? These are all very important questions, after all!”, Jessie stated in reply, her face covered in spaghetti sauce. Onyx and I stared off into the distance, trying to think of how things would turn out for us tomorrow when our parents arrived. Mikey waved a hand in front of us, bringing our attention back to him. “You guys alright? You look like you are in another world.”, he asked with concern. Onyx shook his head and said, “I just have a sneaky suspicion that Mokuba is gonna try something tomorrow when our parents arrived. I bet he’d be entirely glad to have us get dragged home tomorrow with anything he could possibly say or do to us then.”

“Relax, you two. Prof. Kaiba isn’t much to worry about.”, Robin said, joining us at our table with her meal. Onyx looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders as I returned to my food. For the remainder of the meal, everyone except me and Onyx chatted about how things would be tomorrow. From outside, I could hear thunder rolling in the distance, notifying us that a storm was heading for the island.

As time passed, everyone retired to their rooms for the night to prepare for the next day. Meanwhile, as we all slumbered and slept, something was occurring over by the War of Paradox monument….

The rain dropped steadily as one sole person stepped up to the marble statue of the Aelitatrix bearer and the other members of the Celestial Guard. The being looked in both directions as lighting flashed dangerously, revealing a glint of silver and green within their eyes. They looked at their hands and said, “It’s still not time. I cannot feel his presence yet. But know this, Allen Henegan: the time for us to clash again is slowly approaching. And this time, you won’t be so lucky this time.” Lightning cracked again as the silhouette of a woman was shown in the darkness, and just as she mysteriously appeared, she vanished once again.

As the hours flew by, the rain subsided as night gave way to day. As we still slept, the boats that carried the parents of all the students on Academy Island arrived, being led to each of the dorms….

A quick knock was heard at our door. Mikey stirred slightly as he sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes gently. A knock was heard again as he said, “Just a minute!” He slipped out of bed and walked over to the patio doors and pulled the blinds open to let the sun in as he walked over to the door and said, “Who is it?” A low voice replied saying, “It’s a surprise!” Mikey smiled widely as he opened the door and hugged the person at the door and said, “Hi, Dad! You made it!” A giggle was heard as Mikey looked up to see a woman looking back down at him. “So you must be the friend my children was telling me about. What was it….Mikey, right?”, Yukiko stated gently. “Oh! I am so sorry, Mrs. Noroi!”, Mikey said, pulling away from her with an embarrassed look on his face. Yukiko giggled and said, “It’s quite fine. May we come in?” Mikey nodded as Raksha walked in alongside Yukiko, his father coming in last, hugging his son tightly. Raksha looked over at us and said, “Fast asleep. Yukiko, would you do the honors?”
Yukiko smiled and said, “Onyx! Crystal! Breakfast is ready!” Onyx sat up immediately with a hungry look on his face and said, “Did someone mention food? Wait….Mom? Dad! Crystal, wake up!” I muttered softly as I opened an eye gently, seeing my parents smiling back at me. I sat up and said, “Good morning. You two are here early, that’s a first.” Yukiko pouted and said, “Why you have to be so mean, Cryssi? We missed you two.” I smiled as I hopped out of bed and gave my mother a big hug, Onyx’s stomach growling loudly as he said, “Can we eat now?” Raksha laughed when Onyx said that. “Like father, like son.”, I said as I looked over to Mikey and said, “Mikey, is that your Dad?” He nodded as his father said, “Prof. Jonathan Redheart, it’s a pleasure to meet the two who my little Mikey writes about so much in his letters.” Onyx looked at Mikey’s father and said, “You’re huge. You’d never believe you two are related!” Mikey frowned and said, “Oi, that’s not funny, Onyx!”
Dr. Redheart laughed and said, “It’s alright, Mikey. I may be a scientist, but it doesn’t mean I can’t stay in good shape too. So, how are you three enjoying Duel Academy? Is it everything you three hoped?”

“And how! So many things to learn and every day is a new adventure!”, Mikey said. I nodded in agreement as I said, “There isn’t ever a boring day here. Right, Onyx?” I frowned when he replied with a loud burp. “Excuse me. That was delicious, Mom! As always!”, Onyx stated. Raksha laughed as I whacked Onyx on the head with one of my gloves. My ears twitched slightly as a knock was heard at the door and I smiled as I said, “Come on in, Jessie.” The door opened slightly as the young feline walked in, another woman walked in behind as she said, “Morning, everyone!” She motioned to the woman and said, “This is my mother, Nerumi Kiriyama. Mom, these are my friends!” The catwoman bowed slightly and said, “It is a pleasure to meet the children that my kids talk so much about. Them and their families alike.” She looked over at Mikey and said, “Jessie, is he the one you supposed to have a…” She was cut off quickly as Jessie placed a hand over her mother’s mouth, blushing bright red. “Moooom, don’t embarrass me like that! Not in front of my friends!”

I chuckled as my PDA beeped slightly. I tapped the screen and said, “I got a message from Leslie.” Onyx raised an eyebrow when I said that. “Oh? What did he say?”, Onyx asked. “Apparently, all of the students and the parents has to go to the Exodia Arena for an important announcement. We best get over there quickly.”, I stated. Onyx and the others nodded in agreement as we got dressed quickly and left for the Exodia dorm. Along the way, Leslie and Ben joined along. Another woman joined us, and when I looked at her, I could immediately tell that it was Leslie’s mother. “So, you’re Leslie’s mom? It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss.”, I said politely. The being chuckled softly and said, “The pleasure is all mine, sweetie. And it is a blessing to think that you see me as a woman.” Onyx’s eyes widened when the being said that. “Wait, you’re a GUY?!” The male laughed and said, “Alexander von Krieg of the Mastermind Corporation, at your service. But please, I do not mind at all. I get the entire ‘Am I a woman’ treatment all the time.” Onyx laughed nervously as all of us laughed at Alexander’s reply. He seems to be the laid-back type.

As we arrived to the Exodia dorm, Robin finally caught up with us as we walked to the Duel Arena…

All of us took our seats as we arrived in the arena, the entire campus was already there ahead of us. Onyx looked around as he said, “I wonder what they are planning on announcing?” Ben looked around and said, “It must be something big if the entire campus is here.” Jessie looked over to her left slightly an said, “Hey, Dash is here! Uh-oh, isn’t that his mother?” Onyx looked over to Dash and frowned as he said, “Yeah, that’s her. I feel sorry that Dash had to invite her here. Apparently, the father wasn’t capable of coming.” Everyone frowned as they remembered their encounter with Valarie Anderson the last time, before their attention was gathered by Mokuba in the middle of the stage. “Hello, students and staff of Duel Academy! Also, let us welcome all the parents of our wonderful students today!”, Mokuba stated, hearing the applause of the entire campus. He then said, “As you already know, today is Parents Day, a day where everyone gets to relax and enjoy their time with their loved ones. So, for the first announcement, there are no classes for today!”

“Well, that’s the first time Mokuba actually said something good!”, Onyx said, only to get hit on the head by our mother. “Behave, Onyx.”, Yukiko said calmly. “Yes, Mom.”, Onyx replied as Mokuba said, “Secondly, as you already know, Mr. Bastion Misawa has taken a leave of absence and isn’t capable of returning for the remainder of the term. So, please help me as we welcome his fill-in, Ms. Neferti Shade!” I looked as a young woman walked up to Mokuba and shook his hand. She turned to everyone and waved. “Wow, she’s Egyptian. She looks pretty nice!”, Jessie said. Onyx frowned as he looked at her and said, “Why does she look so familiar to me?” Mikey looked at Onyx and said, “I think your mind is playing tricks with you, Onyx.” Onyx shook his head as he pulled out his Celestial Guard deck and said, “No, I’ve definitely seen her face. Where is it….here!” He pulled out the card with the Aelitatrix bearer on it and said, “She resembles him slightly.” Mikey frowned when Onyx said that, “Now that you mention it, she kinda does. That is weird.”

“Now, Ms. Shade, would you like to come up and say a few words to your students?”, Mokuba said, the young woman joining him in the middle of the stage. She was handed the mic as she said, “Thank you, Prof. Kaiba. Hello, everyone. It is an honor for me to be working with such bright and talented students. It is also an honor to meet all the parents of these students today, and I can just say thank you. Where I’m from, the best way to greet new people is with a duel or a party, so for today, I have convinced Headmaster Muto for a mock duel against myself and a lucky parent and student, and of course, a school dance later this week! I do hope the parents can return to be chaperones for their lovely children.” Onyx’s eyes widened when Neferti said the word “dance”, since he despised dances. I, however, loved dancing and I could not wait for this to occur. I looked down at the stage as Joey carted in a raffle ticket stand as Neferti said, “On each of your seats, there is a number. I shall draw two tickets with a number on it and when your number is called, please join me up on the stage. The first number is….206! Could number 206 please join me up on the stage, please?”

Everyone checked their seats to see who was called, only to hear Dash say, “Mom, that’s your number!” My eyes widened as I saw Valarie stand to her feet and said, “Really? Well, guess I could brush off my deck. It’ll be a pleasure to show this second-rate school just who their superiors are.” Dash groaned when she said that, annoyed at the fact she just never stops with disrespecting his school. I frowned as Valarie went down to the center of the stage as Neferti continued and spun the raffle box again. She hummed softly as it continued to spin, coming to a complete stop and said, “Wonder who the lucky person shall be? The number is….385! Would the person sitting in 385 please come down?” Once again, everyone checked their seats for the number. I was shocked when I looked at my seat to see that it sported the number that was called. “It’s me. I got picked!”, I said, standing up immediately. “Aw, no fair! I wanted to duel!”, Onyx said with a pout. I giggled and said, “Maybe next time, Onii-chan.” I walked out to the stairs and immediately walked down to the stage, standing next to Valarie, only to get a scoff from her. “You’re that Noroi girl from the last time, aren’t you?”, she asked. “My name is Crystal, miss. Let’s try to put the past behind us and work together as a team.”, I said kindly. Valarie frowned deeply and said, “Work together? Listen, this is just another reason for me to prove once and for all that Anderson Academy is the best of the best, so you better not hold me back, little girl.”

Neferti giggled as she walked over to us and said, “Well, looks like we have our two duelists! Now, let me just explain how this duel shall work. It shall be a 2-versus-1 duel. Because of this, I shall start with 8000 life points instead of the normal 4000, and neither duelist is allowed to attack until I have had my second turn! That sounds fair, yes?” I nodded and said, “That shouldn’t be too hard! So, would you like the honors of starting, Ms. Shade?” Neferti shook her head and said, “No no, be my guest. You two can start!” Valarie smirked and said, “Then this shall be quick.” I immediately strapped my Duel Disk onto my arm and inserted my deck into it, watching as Valarie and Neferti did the same. My mind flooded with the thoughts of what decks the two of them used and how this duel would turn out. My answers were about to be answered, since Mokuba immediately said, “Looks like our ladies are ready! So, without further ado!”

“LET’S DUEL!”, the three of us said in unison, Valarie following up with her first move. “It’s my move, and I shall summon Moonlit Papillon from my hand in attack mode!”, she said, her monster immediately appearing to the field. ‘A butterfly?’, I thought to myself as I saw her monster flutter around Valarie. “Of course, it won’t be alone for long, cause I shall activate the special ability of Kagetokage from my hand, which shall allow me to special summon it to the field in attack mode!”, Valarie continued, summoning another monster onto the field. “And now, I shall build the Overlay Network with my two level 4 monsters, in order to Xyz summon Photon Papilloperative!”, Valarie stated as she Xyz summoned another monster in her first two’s place. “I’ll end my turn with one card facedown. Your move, Ms. Shade.”

“Wow! That was such a big move for your first turn. Hope I can keep up! Here I go, I draw!”, Neferti said, looking at the card she drew. “Alright, here’s a card that’ll do the job! I activate the spell One Day of Peace! With it, we both draw one card each this turn! Next, I shall summon Fabled Grimro in Attack mode and play one card facedown! Your move!”, she stated. I frowned softly and thought, ‘Why would she activate that card to give me an extra card? I wonder what she is planning. Only one way to find out!’ I looked at my hand and smiled as I saw my ace monster Retsu Taimukipa looking back at me. ‘Hello there, Lady Retsu. You sit back for a while, you’ll get your turn.’, I thought, before saying. “It’s my turn! I draw! And from my hand I shall summon Silent Magician Lv 4 in Attack Mode! Of course, she won’t stay for long. Thanks for using that spell earlier, since it let me draw the spell card Level Up! to my hand, so I shall sacrifice Lv 4 in order to special summon Silent Magician Lv 8! Now, I’ll activate the spell card Terraforming, which will allow me to add one Field Spell to my hand, and I choose Secret Village of the Spellcasters, and I shall activate it right now!”

Onyx whistled softly when I played my Field Spell. “Wow, Crystal is on point today. With this strategy of hers, Ms. Shade may be in trouble.”, he stated. Mikey raised an eyebrow when Onyx said that. “Why you say that, Onyx?”, he asked. “Her Field Spell has the ability to lock an opponent from using Spell Cards unless they have a Spellcaster of their own on the field, Michealangelo. And as it is shown, Ms. Shade has only a Fiend-type on the field, so Spells are inaccessible to her right now.”, Dr. Redheart piped in. “Oh, I see! So right now, Ms. Shade is at a disadvantage!”, Mikey stated. “I don’t know about that. I think Neferti is still warming up.”, Yukiko said. Onyx looked at his mother and said, “You saw something, didn’t you?” Yukiko shook her head and said, “I can feel it. I think Cryssi is walking straight into the enemy’s hands.” Onyx and the others frowned as they returned their attention to the field as I said, “I end my turn! Ms. Anderson, the field is yours.”
Valarie smirked and said, “My turn now. I draw! I shall rid you of your lifepoints! Attack Fabled Grimro!”, Valarie stated, watching as her monster struck down Neferti’s monster. She smiled and said, “Due to the effect of One Day of Peace, I take no damage this turn. Even if you attacked me with Ms. Noroi’s monsters, I won’t get hurt.” Valarie growled slightly as she said, “I’ll place one card facedown and end my turn.” Neferti stated, “My turn again! I draw! And I shall play a monster in defense mode, then play one card facedown. That’s it for me. Your move, young one.”

‘She’s not going to play her monster in Attack mode? Is it a trap to lure me into a false sense of security? Or is it that she hasn’t got a good hand? In any case, with One Day of Peace’s effect gone, now’s the chance to strike, and I got just the cards to do it!’, I thought. “It’s my turn now, I draw!”, I stated, drawing my next card. I looked at it and grinned softly. “It’s here! I’ll activate the Spell Card Spatial Rift! With it, I can summon Retsu Taimukipa, the Last Celestian from my hand without the need of tributing!”, I stated. Once that happened, the entire room went cold. I looked around as I felt something pulse from Retsu’s card, as if it was a heartbeat. ‘What? What was that? And why did it get so cold all of a sudden?’, I thought slightly. I was startled as I felt a hand touch my shoulder, a voice whispering into my ear slightly. “Be careful, partner. I sense something dark about this woman.”, the voice stated. I looked behind me as I saw Retsu staring back at me with a strict look on her face. “What the? Did you just talk to me?”, I said out loud, only to get hit on the head, bringing me back to the duel. “Ow! What was that for?!”, I exclaimed, looking back at Valarie. “Focus, brat! You’re in the middle of a duel! Play your card!”, Valarie exclaimed.

“Uh, right! I summon Retsu Taimukipa in Attack mode!”, I stated, watching as Retsu appeared in front of me. ‘I didn’t just imagine that, did I? I could’ve sworn that….that was the real Retsu I saw. But it couldn’t have been, could it?’, I thought to myself. “Earth to child, WAKE UP!”, Valarie stated. “Huh?! Oh, right! Retsu, attack Ms. Shade’s facedown monster with Space Shredder!”, I exclaimed, watching Retsu attack her facedown monster. “And I’m not done! Silent Magician, get her!”, I stated, watching Neferti’s life points drop to 4500. “With that, I shall end my turn! It’s your move, teach!”, I stated. Neferti stayed silent once I ended my turn. She looked at Retsu and smiled softly. However, to me, it looked like there was definitely a hint of malicious intent in her smile. “It’s my move then. I draw! And from my hand, I shall activate the Spell card Dark World Dealings!”, Neferti replied.

“Ok, so what does that do?”, I asked. “What it does is allow each of us to draw one card. But, in return, we must each discard a card from our hands. Sounds pretty reasonable, doesn’t it?”, Neferti stated. I frowned as I drew a card, my eyes widening as I saw Mina Taimukipa’s face staring back at me. Despite my better judgement, I immediately sent the card to the Graveyard, Valarie doing the same as well, followed by Neferti too. “Now, the game is set. I shall activate my T.G Striker’s special ability. While my opponents have monsters on their field and I don’t, I can Special Summon T.G. Striker to my field in Attack mode. Take the stage!”, Neferti stated, a monster appearing before her. ‘T.G. Striker? That’s a Tuner monster! So she must be a Syncho Summoner!’, I thought to myself as Neferti stated, “Next, I shall activate the effect of Fabled Krus in my hand! By discarding her to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon one Level 4 or Lower ‘Fabled’ monster from my Graveyard, so welcome back Fabled Grimro! And thanks to that, I also activate the effect of Doppelwarrior in my hand. If a monster is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, it is also Special Summoned to the field! And to make matters worse for you, the card I sent to the Graveyard due to Dark World Dealings shall seal your fate! I activate the effect of Fabled Lurrie in my Graveyard! Since it was discarded earlier, I can Special Summon it to the field as well!” My eyes widened as I was staring back at four monsters on Neferti’s field. ‘A Level 4, a Level 1, a Level 2, and another Level 2. And one of them is a Tuner! That can only mean one thing!’, I thought, before she said, “I tune my Level 2 T.G. Striker, my Level 4 Fabled Grimro and Level 2 Doppelwarrior! I Synchro Summon….STARDUST DRAGON!”
The entire crowd went silent as Stardust Dragon emerged on the field. Yusei whistled as he said, “Impressive. I never thought that I’d see another Stardust Dragon user in this school.” Neferti giggled and said, “I do hope you enjoy it, dear Professor. Cause I am still getting warmed up, and my final card shall prove it!” Valarie’s eyes widened when Neferti said that. “There can’t possibly be more to your move!”, she said as two monsters appeared onto Neferti’s field. “Sorry, Madame Butterfly, but when Doppelwarrior is used as Synchro material, two Doppel Tokens are summoned to the field.”, she replied. She immediately turned her attention to me and said, “I have heard tales of people using cards from the Celestial Guard archetype that follow Chancellor Muto’s belief in the Heart of the Cards. You wouldn’t be one of those people, would you, Crystal?”

My eyes widened when I said, “Why, yes. Yes, that’s right. As far as I can tell, only my brother, myself, and the Aelitatrix bearer himself uses these cards.” Neferti nodded and said, “Well, I must say, it is a pleasure to finally get the opportunity to duel someone who uses those cards. For that, I thank you. As a fellow believer of the Heart of the Cards, I can only say this: good luck. YOU’LL NEED IT.” I breathed slightly as the temperature dropped around me, the room grew dark as Retsu turned to me and said, “Take caution. Her words may seem kind and docile, but there is something cold and dark within her.” I shook my head and said, “Good luck, huh? The duel isn’t over until the last card is played. So go on teach, make your move!”

Neferti smiled as her eyes narrowed and said, “I shall.”

Meanwhile, near the War of Paradoxes monument….

The Exodia Headmaster looked up at the sky, watching the clouds go by. She sighed softly as her voice modulator activated and said, “Shouldn’t you be watching the duel, Yami?” A soft chuckle was heard as Yami appeared from behind a tree and said, “I came to ask you the same thing. You felt it too, right? Something strange?” The Headmaster reached around her neck and stroked at her necklace and said, “The Millennium Ring has been active, Yami. Ever since it was put into my possession by Yugi, the entity and darkness within has not stirred due to my control over it. But, it activated against my will, Yami. It senses evil. A dark evil that surpasses anything it has ever seen, and it wants it.” Yami frowned heavily when the Headmaster said that. “You have to be careful with that, Headmaster. That thing shouldn’t even exist, yet it does. That can only mean it has ties to THAT legend. You must keep a close eye on that Ring at all costs, otherwise who knows what may happen.”, Yami replied. She nodded as a cold breeze blew by and said, “Feels like a storm is approaching the island. We best head inside.” Yami nodded, then turned to the direction the Exodia Purple side of the campus lied and gasped as he said, “Headmaster! The monument! Look!”

She looked in the direction Yami pointed with piercing red eyes and was shocked to see that the statue was defaced, the Aelitatrix bearer himself was missing his head and a blade was pierced through the very center of its body. She walked over and pried the blade from the statue, her eyes widening as the blade held a very familiar shape. “Yami, this can’t be what I think it is, is it?”, she asked. Yami readjusted his glasses as he stared at the blade, before it vanished into little flecks of dark light within the Headmaster’s hands. “Only a Keyblade is a weapon composed of light like that. But you are right, that weapon was unmistakable. It was indeed the Dark Resign, the same weapon Arufunu used to slay Allen way back when. It being here is not a good thing.”, Yami stated. He looked at the Headmaster and said, “I better report this to Chancellor Muto ASAP. Return to your quarters, quickly.” The Headmaster nodded as both her and Yami turned from each other, vanishing quickly.

As time passed, storm clouds rolled in quickly. As I stared down my opponent, I had no idea what was in store for the future of my time here at Duel Academy, or what truth lies within the Celestial Guard cards both he and I held….
