As promised to a few people, here’s her profile! Prepare for long-winded dorkery!
So before I can explain this character at all y’all need a little history on what she is part of.
Edena is one of many characters from AXL 09 (pronounced like axel). AXL 09 is a world and story I have had in my head for years (since 2004) and has found its way to the web little by little. Well, it was getting out there before 2011 when the MLP virus took me over full tilt. For the last few years I have done almost nothing with my world or its cast.
Put briefly, AXL 09 is a fantasy world where magic exists and is pretty much oozing with furry. There aren’t any humans. Go fig. The technology of this world is very steam-punk inspired with a heavy influence from the age old “swords and sorcery” setting. If you’ve ever played Final Fantasy 6 or 12, it’s pretty much like that. There are no cars or computers but there are trains and flying robots. You know; logic!
It’s titled after the lead character, AXL 09 himself. He is another story however.
In this world there is an Illuminati style organization called NEBULA. They sit at the helm of the world’s largest and most powerful empire and its members are all code-named after stars. They are also all pretty friggin’ powerful.
Edena is one of those members. Her code name is Sol. She’s among the youngest members but has managed to be in the upper echelons of authority. Mostly due to how overwhelmingly strong she is.
She is from a race called the Dorva, a draconic people who lack wings but all have unicorn horns (FYI the name was established long before Skyrim’s Dovahkin was a thing). They are large in stature, trending 7-9 feet tall on average and are famed for their immense magical abilities. There are three types of Dorva each with their own inherent element. Electricity, Flame, and Shadow. Edena is of the shadow ilk; a rare and powerful breed.
Edena has obviously lost her horn. Long removed, her powers are now much more personal and close ranged. Her horn allowed focus and distance but also served to suppress the magic as to not destroy a Dorva’s own body.
By all accounts she should have died shortly after the horn was torn off, not just from potential blood loss, but from the very distinct threat of magic meltdown. To avoid agonizing death Edena quickly learned to focus her energies into her fingers, toes and tail. This allows her to create blades and contained explosions from her extremities and has the added bonus of channeling the build-up so as not to experience the aforementioned agonizing death. She is the only one of her kind to ever manage this feat of survival, most Dorva in this situation have either died or lost all their magic.
A close up fight with Edena is not recommended unless you enjoy being diced or blown apart.
You may have guessed that she is pretty remarkable even unto her own race. You’d be correct. Edena was born with exceptional wells of energy and an instinctual knowledge of its uses. Shadow Dorva are rare as it is and even among them Edena stands out as particularly powerful.
That is why she lost her horn.
Spoilery details omitted, Edena was approached by NEBULA not long after becoming an adult. Her powers had garnered a reputation with the ever watchful group and further more she was not afraid to use them. Edena, while not purely evil, is capable of incredible heartlessness towards her foes and has a sadistic streak in battle. A perfect sort of warrior for NEBULA.
Edena was the second Dorva to join NEBULA. The first was a lightning kin named Saryu, AKA Arcturus.
Saryu is a far more merciful and focused soul than Edena and this caused quite the friction between them. Eventually they became embittered rivals. Saryu saw Edena as a threat to the world at large as her power and carelessness grew. Without consulting her superiors she made it her personal goal to eliminate Edena. She would take her horn, that would either kill Edena or cause her to lose the majority of her magic. Either way it’d be better for the sake of NEBULA and the world it manipulates.
That didn’t work.
Removal of the horn only made Edena stronger in a sense, as well as angrier. Saryu went into hiding soon after, and for good reason. Not only was Edena after her blood, but her superiors were not at all happy either.
There’s some history for you! Now a few character traits: Aside from her vengeful nature and sadistic fighting tendencies Edena is very cheerful. Almost always smiling about something, laughing, joking, generally being eccentric. Then again it’s a little creepy since it’s hard to know when she’ll go 180 into unhappyville. Her emotional state worsened once her horn was torn away. Edena now rides the roller-coaster of feels; even being known to start crying about something at total random then snapping back as if it hadn’t occurred. She is obsessed with finding Saryu. Stands to reason.
As a side note: she is not anything like a wanton murderer, you’d have to be a target; so there’s no reason to fear for your life around her. She’s pretty gentle outside of battle or a small tussle. She doesn’t even pick fights, which belies her attitude.
Edena is around 7′3 and identifies as female. Despite her, eh, crotchular area being quite clearly male. She lacks any female reproductive organs in or out. This is a birth anomaly common of shadow kin. Often they aren’t born as one gender or the other but between them. Much like their magic and unpredictable nature.
Edena (Sol) is in the second tier of NEBULA. Having both power and authority only surpassed in significant amount by the emperor himself (Canus). Her peers are Antares, Cephei, and Sirius.
If you’re curious about what Antares looks like I have drawn her, here’s a link-
Man, why are the insanely dangerous ones always the cutest, too? She sounds like a really interesting character, and so long as she has no reason to target you, someone who might be fun to be around. At least some of the time. I certainly wouldn't want to be in her line of fire, though! She sounds like she can be really scary when she wants to be, and those are some really impressive abilities she's got!
It is good to see you getting back to your own characters and stories again. I've always thought the characters you created were really fascinating, and I really like the world you've described for this story already. So I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing where everything goes!

She's not too dangerous outside of conflict; and if you're just some random person you are very unlikely to be faced with her harsh side. If you can handle the occasional sad spell or angry rant about Saryu she's pretty fun, there's just always an aura of creepiness due to what she is. And the stare, those eyes can be haunting. haha
And thank you! The biggest change since the "old days" is the story now takes place in its own completely unique world. No longer an alternate version of Earth. I felt that was getting too cliche in furry stories.
