Should I Even Bother?

I've had some epic TMI Tuesday sessions in the past.

Kristin, Tatiana, Piper...

And usually I have a pretty good turn-out every week. But for the last 2, I was tremendously disappointed and pretty much don't give a shit any more.

1 person had questions for Joel.

2 people had questions for Megan and Ross. I had talon join in to play the role of Ross, and Megan is my fucking pride and joy.

Strongly considering canning the TMIs for good...

It's the peak of summer vacationing, right now, and others are getting ready to return to school. Give it time.

Personally I think you just put it on hiatus a bit, wait till readership increases and their more awareness of your characters.

Two disappointing posts in the last week of summer/ first weeks of school should not be an indicator of a trend. I know I have had to dedicate a lot of my time to my girls these last few weeks. Give it some time, I might even come up with questions for them in the future.

I'm not big on the TMI things, since it seems strange to ask a fictional character something when it would literally shatter the fourth wall. I've never actually asked a question in any of them.

However, I do have a huge slew of questions that have been bugging me regarding your setting in general.

It almost seems like nearly all anthro species can interbreed, given the different hybrids I've seen between yours, jacinth's, and talon2point0's various stories...that sort of leads me to believe that nearly all mammalian anthros are in the same genus (or at least family), but have the same degree of polymorphism that canines do.

Is inter-species discrimination (and hate crimes) a problem, and are there laws regarding them?
Are there any social stigmas to cross-species relationships?
Are hybrids discriminated against?
How common are cross-species hybrids?
Do hybrids have the same sort of medical issues that real-world hybrids have such as infertility?
How closely are the species in your setting tied to real-world species?
Do they share the same class, order, family, genus, and species breakdowns and traits?

At first I was thinking Megan was a megabat, since the pictures you posted of her don't have the signature nose ridges, squished face, and wrinkled ears that most microbats have, but she used echolocation in one story...The only megabat I know of with echolocation is the egyptian fruit bat. If the anthros in your stories do share the same class, order, etc...What species (or combination of species) of bat is Megan?

In real-world bats the wings are essentially webbing between the fingers, and the fingers themselves are enormously long (the same length as the rest of the arm altogether). Additionally, an animal's wingspan is traditionally 3x that of it's height. Flying foxes (and other megabats) are typically 1 to 2 feet long, with a wingspan of 3 to 6 feet.

How tall is Megan and what's her full wingspan? I'd ask how much Megan weighs, but that might be rude. ;-p
Does she have separate arms and wings (6 limbs) or the traditional 4?
If her wings *are* her arms (4 limbs), does she have an extra hand, or just just a thumb (or maybe finger and thumb) to manipulate stuff?
Has Megan ever broken a wing bone or had her wings seriously injured?

Okay, this reply is so long, it must be submitted as 2 comments:

And questions like this are appreciated, since they help me work out details for my characters and setting, so first of all, thank you.

For the purpose of variety, yes, inter-species breeding is possible. While I enjoy characters such as canines, felines, equines, and vulpines, limiting the cast of characters to a select few species for the purpose of reproduction seems... boring. Chalk it up as a result of whatever evolutionary divergence occurred that created these anthros from their feral counterparts.

Inter-species discrimination exists, and yes, there are laws against them. This is based primarily off my own preferences. You may have noticed that the only appearance of reptiles in my universe so far are
Bigchris369
Bigchris369
's Jack Millen and
RisingDragon
RisingDragon
's Leroy Cameron. I recently created a bearded dragon girl who was mentioned as one of the girls Derek tried dating, but she has yet to be featured properly. It was also mentioned that Leroy only has his job because the Private School system that runs Chimera, Manticore, and Sphinx (the Elementary School) has to keep a reptile on staff. Go figure, he's the substitute. The mention of the mysterious DNA in Sheylyra's Toybox was supposed to say "reptilian DNA" (will go back and do a historical edit on that), sparking further mistrust. Additionally, responses in TMI sessions are canon, and when asked who he thought was responsible for Josie's disappearance, Sean used the slur "Scale-backs."

You may have also noticed that [iconname]Rakai[/iconname]'s Afon has been the only aquatic character to appear in my world, and the only avians were teachers at Chimera Prep with minor roles, and [iconname]kemosabe[/iconname]'s JJ made a cameo in Cruising Altitude. My world is very mammal-centric.

Mammal/mammal, reptile/reptile, avian/avian, and aquatic/aquatic relations are acceptable. Once Jack and River's relationship becomes public, their age difference will be only one small part of what society takes issue with.

Hybrids may be discriminated against, depending on the parents. For example, Svetlana and Illyana are raccoon/rabbit hybrids, and face no discrimination. Jack is a komodo dragon/crocodile hybrid, and faces no discrimination for being a hybrid, but still does face some discrimination for being a reptile. Now, if, for example, Rakai's Fibonacci, who is an akita/komodo dragon mix, made an appearance in my world, she would likely not receive a very friendly welcome at all. There is a lot of traditional, conservative, closed-mindedness governing Marblecliff, but the beliefs are not shared amongst ALL of the citizens.

Once again, whatever evolutionary divergence that turned these creatures anthro from their feral counterparts that allows for inter-species breeding also allows for hybrids to become/make pregnant. However, health problems from the parents can be passed to the children, even in crossbreeding. Cross-species hybrids are actually quite common, though still a minority, but they are more common in more liberal-minded areas.

For the most part, I try to stay true to the real world counterparts, but some... adjustments... need to get made in order to satisfy what I am trying to write, which once again, I credit to the evolution from feral to anthro. Look at Afon - I wrote that she has smooth skin, but a River Shark would have rough, sandpapery skin. There's no way a guy could have sex with her and not chafe his genitals to the point of being raw and bloody.

They do not share the same class, order, family, genus, and species breakdowns and traits as their feral counterparts, since they evolved from them. Am I going to write new names for all of them? Likely not. I think the average person would prefer to say "bat" or "raccoon."

Megan identifies herself as a Giant Fruit Bat (aka Indian Flying Fox), because that is what her mother is, though her father that walked out when she was born was some unspecified type of Microchiroptera. By comparison, Megan's mother is larger than her daughter, which also allows her to abuse Megan more easily. Lucinda (Mom)'s dietary habits were also passed down to her daughter, though Megan could eat meat if she wanted to. Vegetarian is more of a lifestyle choice after being raised that way.

I leave the interpretation of the wings to the individual artists, but the wings are attached to the arms. (God, I hate seeing bats with the wings as separate limbs!) For the record, and for the purpose of being able to manipulate objects, the hand has four fingers and a thumb, with the more traditional "bat fingers" emerging from the wrist to make up the spines of the wings. If an artist wants to do that differently, though, I won't berate them.

Megan stands at a 5'5" tall (crown of her head), 6' (tips of her ears). Her wingspan is a little over 15', if she were to spread her wings fully. This accounts for why she was so uncomfortable sitting in the front seat of Ross's Honda Civic. Her weight has not been discussed, but she does have a light, slender build.

She has broken bones in her wings before, whether it really was the result of crashing into something, or abuse from her motherm we might never know. Thankfully, Indian Flying Foxes heal quickly.

Thanks for clearing all that up for me. :D

I can't imagine sitting for hours in any car with a 15' wingspan. That would be the most uncomfortable thing ever...Even if you had the back seat all to yourself it would still be awkward.
