Drawing programs

Hey peoples of the internet. I was wondering if anyone knew a good drawing program? Especially for beginners. I dont have a drawpad thing for the comp, which I think is what is recommended but I just wanted to doodle and maybe get a little better, I've always had drawing ideas just never can fully realize them on paper. If there is a good drawing program I can use without a draw pad thing, please let me know. Preferably free if possible.

Thanks for reading. You know you get free muffins of appreciation!

Well, the program doesn't really make a difference as much as whatever you're used to overall when it comes to making marks. But as for programs, GIMP is highly recommended as it has all the features that Photoshop has, but is 100% free. Otherwise, I think Paintshop pro is also free and is just an upgraded version of MSPaint.

Sadly, the best you can really do as far as practice is to just get really good with whatever instrument you use. Whether a pencil and paper, a tablet, or the mouse. The program doesn't make too much of a difference otherwise. I'm also more than happy to help you out if you need any assistance.

I haven't had much luck with any. Gimp is a big name so I tried it. It's functional for the most part but nowhere near as good as photoshop. At least the user interface was decent.
