I'm a moron...

While I was out today, I bought some green scotch brite pads.

I noticed while washing my car yesterday that there was a film developing over my headlamps.

I was able to scratch the film off with my fingernail so I figured a good scrubbing and it'll be fine.

Well headlamps are made of clear plastic.

I scrubbed... and I scrubbed, and I scrubbed.

Now, I've worked on machines for nearly a decade.

You would think that I would remember the simple fact that PLASTIC SCRATCHES!!

So after I wiped the soap away my entire headlight looked cloudy. Confused I leaned in and looked at the headlight and bowed my head and groaned as I realized that while I got the film off. My left headlamp is scratched all to fuck.

So in my lapse of sanity, I just cost myself about $150 in damage to my car.

Fuck it, if I'm going to buy headlamps, I might as well buy aftermarket.

toothpaste is a temporary fix to cloudiness... don't know if it will work on scratches.

I second Squeak's recommendation.  You'll likely find those grits of paper someplace that sells auto body equipment.

Plastic polish and four oct (0000) grade steel wool, with very light application of the wool.

Search engine this: polishing plastic headlamps

Very good article here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/maintenanc...
