Sneaking in another Software Update - Mass change Scraps, Blocking

I added a couple of new Gallery Management features today:

    * New Feature - Mass select and move items to/from your Scraps Gallery. You an choose this action in the dropdown of actions on your Gallery or Scraps pages.

    * New Feature - Mass select and Block/Allow Guests to see your submissions. You an choose this action in the dropdown of actions on your Gallery or Scraps pages.

You can now see the Guest Blocked/Allowed status of your submissions at a glance. Take a look at your own Gallery or Scraps pages. There's a new icon under each thumbnail to indicate the "Blocked from Guests" status.

And also some minor fixes:

    * Posting Video Stream announcements to Twitter now doesn't have the pointless "..in 0 hrs 0 mins" message when your stream is starting right away.

    * Your latest submission is now shown at the top of your userpage if you have no Featured Submission set but you have uploaded submissions. If you have no submissions uploaded, then it shows your latest Favorite instead.

No big mass announcement email for this one, because I don't like doing those more than once a week if I can help it!

Huh?  The only ones I've seen are the two "Hug your teddy bear" pics by Shiuk and Ende, which are both meant to be cute (and they are, in my opinion).

EDIT: I suppose those are what you're talking about, given HawkWolf's comment.  I don't see the creepy, personally.  But, whatever. ^_^;

There's a fine line between cute a creepy.

Our mascot definitely walks the line. XD I mean he's an overly happy bright pink rabbit with a suspicious looking dripping brush. D:

Swampy-poo told me I oughta say something about the maintenance screens as well. I think that if you are concerned about people thinking inkbunny is only for cub art, you need to not have cubby art for maintenance screen images, even if it's clean. When I see the bunny in the masthead, I don't think, "that's a cub fur!", I think, "that's a pink cartoon bunny thing!".

Totally random, but isn't a starling a kind of bird? You look like a bunny.

Swampy-poo?

also: Starling a bunny? I always thought corgi for some reason.

His submission tags say he's a dog, but it doesn't specify a breed.
Swampwulf

*nods* It's probably his chibi-esque proportions that give me the corgi impression.
It's a very appealing character in any case.

We'll have to commission some much older looking characters to balance out the rotation available for the Maintenance screen. :P

Sorry to have raised a fuss, Dude, but step back and look at the images objectively.
I won't even start on how I feel about having a 'Pink bunny' as the mascot of a site that's trying to step into the arena of professionalism in the furry fandom.
I get that you're trying to play pink off of ink, but you'd have honestly been better off doing an 'inkdrop' bunny.

You know, I have to agree with the others about the maintenance mode screen.  "Hug your teddy bear" just seems way too juvenile.  It was fine in the private beta when most of the people on the site were into cubs.  But when the site is supposed to cater to everybody, the maintenance screen seems to cater more toward cub/babyfurs than the overall audience.

Yeah, it's cute and everything, but it's just too childish, I think.

It's not even babyfur, is it? I looks more chibi than anything to me.

I think both Shiuk and Ende's versions are of a cub character with his teddy bear.  But when I say it caters more toward cubs and babyfurs, I more meant both the "Hug your teddy bear" as well as the young character.

"Hug your teddy bear" is a cute sentiment, but teddy bears are a symbol of childhood, and it doesn't help that both images used on the page look like cub art.

When I saw the maintenance screen the other day, I started to worry if people would create a fuss over it seeming to target cub lovers, and I personally don't think it's necessarily the best maintenance screen now that the site is public.  It definitely seems like it's going toward one specific group instead of having a wider appeal, and for a status page that can't be filtered and that will be seen by everyone, that's a pretty important problem.

The images aren't adult rated though. And any artist is welcome to submit a pink Inkbunny of any age hugging a teddy.

My complaint is the teddy bear thing itself more than the images.

I don't necessarily think that a teddy bear does much to dispel the idea that the site is geared toward cubs and babyfurs.  It definitely seems like a childish thing.  Not childish like immature, but childish as in something an adult would say to a child or something a child would do themselves.

I'm sure that's not what you meant, but it kind of comes off that way.  Maybe instead of going for something cute and child-like, you could either keep things serious or go for a more comedic page.  As it is, it seems too childish.

Sorry if I'm going a bit crazy or whatever.  I sometimes get latched to an idea and just keep at it even if it's kind of silly.

Maybe I'm the only one who has a problem with the teddy bear thing.  I just thought it was a little too child-like.  The concept of hugging your teddy bear, not the artwork used.  I think it's too easy to see that and say that Inkbunny is a cub site, because it's telling its users to hug their teddy bears.

Let me know when I start sounding insane. ^_^;

Hehe naw it's fine. It's good to hear how people feel about things I'd never have considered.

I admit I kind of winced when I saw/read the maintenance screen as well. I agree that the "hug your teddy bear" bit plays into the notion of Inkbunny being a cub/babyfur site, and I think that misconception is unfortunately keeping a number of people (at least that I know of) from joining or participating in the site. Maybe something simple and straightforward would be better?

Having more variations than just those two pics would help, I believe. But no matter what we choose, someone will always dislike it. The never-ending FA banner drama is a good example. xD

"Hug your teddy" is just a cute/silly thing and much nicer than "Site unavailable". Anyone that thinks we're a cub site isn't going to have their opinion changed by us trying to sanitize our image.

Time will show that we're really for the whole fandom here, not just one aspect of it. Taking a look at the site galleries should already make that clear to anyone who actually wants to find out for themselves. :P

Well, like the commenter above said, it's not so much the images as the text itself. Yeah, I can see where it's just supposed to be cute and silly, but to me it still does have a certain connotation to it, and I wouldn't blame people new to the site if they saw it another way. Then again, since I'm not into cub/babyfur myself, maybe I'm just seeing it from a different angle. I know people are always going to have their presuppositions/drama; I just feel like this could be playing into them a little more than necessary.

But hey, it's your site -- and anyway, hopefully we won't be seeing that screen all that much anyway. >^_^<

Shouldn't you make this Site News? o.o

Oops yeah, thanks. I didn't set it as news when I posted it so I wouldn't spam everyone with email site news turned on. We already sent out a couple of those emails this week. So I'll announce all this and any new changes again on the weekend with a full email announcement.

=) Hey, for the next update, how about a way to know what kind of Notices we have without having to click in the Notices button? Maybe showing them in the alt/title text? Also, is it ok to create alternate accounts? Just wanted to make sure =P
starling
8 years, 9 months ago
Hi! Yeah we want to make the notices thingy tell you what kind they are. It's on out todo list! You can create alternate accounts if you like. There's no limit to how many you can have. But they will all need a different email address.
