I've had problems maintaining any type of serious relationship. I look at Joel and what he has with Phoebe, and wonder if I'll ever have anything like that. They've been together since he was eleven and she was ten - that's seven years! I'm happy and all for them, but I'm also kind of jealous... I don't mean to be, and I actually hate myself sometimes for feeling that way, but I can't help it. It's a lot of hard work, but it's very rewarding. To have the chance to bond with these girls and enrich their lives, and to see them grow into wonderful young women, knowing that the Girl Scouts and I played a role in their development... It's a wonderful feeling. It's volunteer work, so there is no pay, and the hours are long, but thankfully I have a lot of free time on my hands. But I do most of the planning and coordinating for our events, whether it's a bake sale, camping trip, volunteering at the senior center. But my assistant leader has been a tremendous help. I wouldn't be able to do half of what gets done without her help.
