How to set icons on your home page

This may sound like a noob question. but i've seen peoples sights with icons on them that shows the other persons group or icon on there page. what im wanting to know is how are they doing this?
if anyone can help that would be great.

same as you set them here, @ (username) on the profile tab type it in the description of your profile for who you want to appear there
