Giving Homeless and At-Risk Veterans a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out
Description:
April 5-7, 2013, the North Florida Fairgrounds will take on a military atmosphere as tents and cots are set up for homeless veterans, who will have access all weekend to an array of services aimed at helping to get them off the streets.
General Information:
Veterans and their families who are living on the streets or who do not have permanent housing will get access to free:
Local bus transportation
Florida State Photo Identification Cards
Showers, clothes and haircuts
Comfort & First Aid kits
Hot meals for three days
Food Stamps
Medical and Mental Health Services
Dental cleaning and examinations
HUD-VASH Housing vouchers
AA and NA Meetings
Court Services (must qualify)
Women & Children Services
North Florida Legal Services
Job and Employment Counseling
Entertainment
Gift cards and vendor vouchers
Cell phone service
And much more information and other services
Most importantly, though, they will receive companionship and camaraderie.

As a member of the United States Military, I know how much Veterans have sacrificed in service of this country. Any opportunity we can get to give back, help them out and give them a leg up during tough times, I say go for it.
