Dick Tracy is still a kickass movie, but...

Maybe I'm just a retard (wouldn't surprise me :P), but there's something in the movie that I still for the life of me cannot figure out.

I've seen this movie countless times. I love it to death. But there's at least two moments in the movie referring to something and I cannot figure out what it's all about.

When Tracy is getting abducted by Flattop and Itchy and the Kid is leaving (thinking they're the orphanage lady), he takes Tracy's wallet. Now cut to outside, we see Tracy being taken away in a car while the Kid stops and notices Tracy's badge.

Later, after saving Tracy and the Kid is getting recognition at the police station, he turns to Tracy and says "I got a badge for you; look in your top drawer." Tracy opens the drawer and finds his badge. He shakes the Kid's hand and says "Put 'er there, Detective."

Someone PLEASE explain to me wtf is this all about? Am I missing something? Is my version missing a scene? Was Tracy missing his badge and the Kid found it or something? I don't get it lol
