the riotmodels site being mentioned? That looks like a normal porn site, do they even do furry stuff over there?

Riotmodels is Subscribestar's version of Onlyfans  it looks like. Even though its not intended for artists or drawings, Subscribestar is recommending it's aritsts to migrate there just in case our pages get nuked.

If it works, it works I guess. I have to wonder though why that one is okay and SS isn't.

Do they have a deal with a different payment processor maybe? But that probably results in you getting a worse deal there.

I had heard somewhere they were trying to set up a token system, like DLsite uses, but looking at the site, no such thing is implemented yet. Supposedly, the tokens make it so you're not *paying* for "objectional content", so the payment processors don't care as much, somehow.

I've heard that the problem with porn sites is the amount of chargebacks.

I guess there's some sort of reason why points are less prone to it. Maybe because you're just buying non-specific points, so there's no records leading to actual porn, so people have less reasons to try to disavow it.

I just can't udnerstand why they do it.. like.. who even need SS now? It was less strict patreon for artist and game devs and now when it's the same.. I barely see any reason to use it.

Probably because Visa/Mastercard have a problem with that, and SS wants to keep existing.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of options for payment handling.

The reason why they're doing it is simple: It's not THEM doing it, it's payment processors and credit card companies forcing them to do it

I thought they reversed their decision to cater to the processors after the backlash?

It really sucks having to find alternatives because then it becomes a matter of
"How long until" and then "Will people actually use this?"

Hope this helps, but Bonk mentioned something that also the US government to enforce a bill/law that holds payment processors accountable; which might restore subscribestar (and hopefully patreon) back to the way they used to be. So check out this journal of their’s if you can

I don't believe the current government is porn friendly, so I don't think that's exactly what they have in mind

I’m aware of that, but so long as you don’t mention porn in the comments you should be good; just mention freedom of speech, religion, how it might effect any political party donations (depending on who is in charge of those payment processors) and such and the rest will follow though.

Also mention that the payment processors shouldn’t step in unless it is an illegal purchase, not a legal one, and not one where they should dictate what is legal.

Then, after that, things should be good. And is a step in the right direction….. unless Japan’s payment processors goes global?

The problem is the civil rights playbook has been studied and adopted by the worst possible people. That's why Visa and Mastercard even care, because the various 'protect the children' trolls have made the case that ether Visa and Mastercard abide or face a shit ton of political intervention. Free Speech, but porn has long made payment providers tons of money.

This is going to require a many years long legal battle that will have to go likely all the way to the Supremes and given the current group, you really do not want them doing what they have fought like mad to avoid doing, finally laying down what freedom of speech and so on really mean legal wise.

I genuinely wouldn't even trust an "alternative" at this point. SubscribeStar was the "alternative." Before that there were other "alternatives." They all turn out the same, as soon as payment processors get involved everything starts to get banned. We have to start looking at independent solutions, decentralized even (if that's possible to do at this point).

the alternative mentioned is actually run by Subscribestar.

Oh then I DEFINITELY wouldn't touch it, why would it be different than their already .adult platform that was meant for art XD

They did take feral and anthro out of the prohibited_content after some backlash but have kept the rest, so while furry and feral can still be posted, the other restriction still apply which if you ask me is stupid in the highest regards as those and the furry artists are the reason they kept existing in the first place.

If there is one good thing to take from this situation is that there will be a reduction of artists just posting ads for their SubscribeStar.

I mean, how's that a good thing? They spam commissions and Patreon just as much, and they do that because surviving on an Internet business is really hard and requires you to be aggressive.

I'm in the "stop asking people to crowdfund your lifestyle" camp. Sell goods and services, not a promise of goods and a chance of services. Have been ever since Patreon reared its ugly head for the first time.

Maybe there could be a subsribtion site with cypto one day?
cypto sucks, but at least no one can set in to stop a transfer, as far as I know.
and maybe mastercard and visa do something if they lose market share to that.

I and an artist experimented with it a day ago to bypass paypal.

Backed.by   was this.   idk if it's still around.  I highly doubt the people behind backedby would allow this type of content regardless tho.
