Technology Has Killed my Art

by
I hate technology, the newer the tech the more finicky and frustrating it becomes.

I have bought an new HP printer that can take Tabloid sized paper so that I can print out my comics in the proper comic book ratio.  I had it working last week, this week it is paper jam, paper jam, paper jam.  But nothing is jammed and it's not recognizing card stock paper for the cover work.

I am so done with this shit.

I had a similar problem some weeks ago. The problem is that the printer has a little sensor in there that detects the position of the paper. If the sensor bends or gets misaligned, it will give a false positive for “paper jam” even if there is nothing stuck in the mechanism.

Each printer is different, but if you open the door and look with a flashlight, you may see some little plastic levers sticking into the paper path. In some models these are green or some other color different from the rest of the parts. Could be one or two depending on the model. Move them gently with a finger or a toothpick. Sometimes they are just stuck and will spring back into place. Or they could be bent, in which case they could be carefully returned to their original position.

There could also be a small piece of paper stuck somewhere, not an entire page but a little corner of one that broke inside there, or simply a dirty sensor. Blow some air to see if dead bugs come out.

After trying those things, always give the printer a full reset, to erase any psychological trauma, and try again.

The other thing is that if you used a kind of paper that’s too thick, that could make the printer believe there is a jam. Some models come with a special setting for heavy cardstock, but it doesn’t always work. This was the one that happened to me in the first place, and I ended up giving up on the project because the printer would not take the heavy paper no matter how many tweaks I tried.

I hope that was helpful   ( ᐢ (oo) ᐢ )

Most helpful.  I too was trying to print on card stock and it simply won't.  Oddly after resetting everything, printing out everything and then going back to the cover art, it refuses to print it.  Even on plain paper.

Printers are the literal worst.  I consider myself pretty good with tech, and I find that printers accross the board suck.  Don't feel bad about having issues with them.

funny thing is that my Brother printer works like a dream, never an issue.

I bought the HP because I wanted to print on Tabloid sized paper.  I am finding that the further on that the internet exists the shittier and shittier the devices in my life become--we march forward but big tech has forgotten about User Friendly.  Particularly in the last 7 years.
