I expect to get harassed on NexusMods.
I committed the unpardonable sin of making it clear (without simply saying it up-front) that I use Windows 7, which is what makes it an unpardonable sin. I will be harassed for using Windows 7, which is the minimum operating system requirement to run Skyrim Special Edition.
Why?
Because I downloaded a mod that fixes an annoyance, but requires CopyFile2, an API call that was introduced in Windows 8, and thus is not available on Windows 7 by default. I’ve read that it can be done without issue using VxKex, but it’s a needless complication just to be able to not get an error before my game turns on. Better to just uninstall the annoyance fix at that rate.
I stated factually what happened, and given the popularity these days of piling harassment onto people who use anything that isn’t the newest and shiniest toy Microsoft has come out with, I’m pretty certain it’s going to happen.
I know the people who do this shit are likely going to be either Windows 10/11 shills, or are going to be ignoramuses acting like the word of Microsoft is tantamount to the Word of God (and probably have tons of viruses on their machines while telling people they “don’t know how malware works” the same way some Christian apologists will say “you can’t understand the Bible because you’re not a Christian and don’t have the Holy Spirit dwelling in your body to possess guide you”), but it doesn’t change the fact that it is still going to be harmful to me again simply because humans are social creatures and don’t approve of anyone who doesn’t conform.
And using Windows 7 definitely isn’t conforming to the rest of the group right now.
I hate hate HATE being misrepresented. I’m not an idiot, and the harassers will act like I am one because I’m not using the popular OS right now. An operating system isn’t a cult, I shouldn’t feel like I’m being ostracized by the whole of society for refusing to use the one they approve of.
